8-Bit Battle is a player vs. player card game designed by GeymTheori Studios.
The legend of the 8-bit battle goes as follows. In a distant kingdom lived a King who ruled over a mighty nation. But alas, the kingdom was torn in two as factions began to form against the King. Now the king must draw upon his closest allies else he will battle against them for the future of the kingdom. They are: The King, The Warrior, The Wizard, The Queen, The Goblin and The Villagers.
This game creates several unique strategies. Do you choose items or characters that you can stack up to ensure victory, but at the risk of letting your opponent have automatic victory points because you cannot engage in every battle? Or will you go with special characters like the wizard who have a high probability of victory on their own? Or will you use special items to gain the advantage by increasing your attributes or peeking at the other players cards before you have to make a decision. The choice is yours, but choose wisely, because every decision you make will lead to victory or your untimely demise.
Drafting Character and Item Cards
The 8 character cards are shuffled and placed between the two players, face down. The first player draws one card, then decides to keep it or give it to the other player. If they keep it, the other player takes the next card in the deck. If they give it to the other player, they take the next card in the deck and keep it. Now the other player does the same. Repeat until all 8 character cards are distributed.
The 10 item cards are shuffled and placed between the two players, face down. The first player draws two cards, then decides which of the two to keep and which to discard. The next player does the same. Stop once each player has three item cards.
The player who has the king defends first. The other player is the attacker. The attacker selects one character card and one item card and places them face down.
The defender selects a character card face up and an item card face up. If a card allows additional cards to be played, it is played now.
The attacker then reveals their cards. If a card allows additional cards to be played, it is played now.
The battle: If the attacker's Attack value is higher than the defender's Defense value, the attacker wins. Else the defender wins. In the event of a tie, the defender wins.
Winner takes all of the cards and puts them in their discard pile. Once a player is out of characters to play with, the other player places the rest of their cards into their discard pile.
Players go through their discard pile and count up the Health Points (which are victory points). Player with the most points that round wins the round. In the event of a tie, the player with the King card in their pile wins. Best of 3 rounds wins the game.
Queen - When you play the queen, you can also play the King card with it raising your attack to 3, defense to 3 and health to 5.
Wizard - If attacking, automatically wins unless the defender plays the torch card to counter the wizards "fog of war" ability which renders the defender blind with darkness.
Ale - Allows another fighter to join the attacker or defender.
Key - Allows an attacker to see what the defender plays before they select an item to accompany their fighter. For a defender, it allows them to see the item selected for the attacker before they choose their character and item cards.
Some of our Card Designs
Here are some of the card designs for the game.
$1,000 - A photo-quality insert of the game's logo.
$5,000 - An additional item card with a new, awe-inspiring special ability.
$7,500 - A additional awesome character to replace one of the boring NPC cards.
$10,000 - We will design an additional expansion to increase the number of players from 2 to 4 and make it available to our backers at a discounted price.
$50,000 - We will try figure out a way to host an online tournament to allow our backers a one-time chance to battle against each other for prizes.
Risks and challenges
There are no risks to this project. The designs are complete and the printer is ready to process our orders. We just need to reach our goal to keep the costs low for us, so we can keep the cost low for you. Also note that no one owns this game yet. So you can rest assured that you will be able to break out this game on game night and that no one else will have it.
We are a small, independent game designer group that is trying to provide unique and fun games to casual and serious gamers. We have found that the table-top gaming community really supports and backs independent games and are looking for up-and-coming designers to back.
We thank you for supporting us. And in return, we continue to strive to work our hardest at developing high-quality, entertaining and unique games that can find their ways on to the impressive game shelves we see across the nation.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
