The backdrop for Renaissance Wars is the immeasurably rich period of the Renaissance, when art, politics, religion and economics evolved in radically new directions, changing the face of Europe and the entire world in the process.
In Renaissance Wars these forces are represented in the play deck by conditions:
Players must quickly adapt to changing circumstances and events, using only the cards in their hands and the powers of their chosen Luminary.
What you’ll get in the Standard Edition of the game:
There are 128 different cards in Renaissance Wars. The majority of the play deck is made up of CONDITION cards, which are played against opponents in skirmishes and battles.
POPULACE cards are randomly added to the play deck during game set up. After being won in a skirmish, they are placed on your Luminary Mat and have continuing effects until they are removed from play.
FANATIC cards allow you to perform actions, both good and evil!
At the start of every round, players receive a PERSONAL ACTION card. Wildly different in effect, when used at the right time, they just might alter the course of the game!
IMMEDIATE INTRUSION and IMMEDIATE EVENT cards are randomly seeded into the four Era Envelopes during game set up. You never know exactly what cards will appear or in what combination, so no two games are exactly the same!
There are six Luminaries in the base game, but only four will be in play at any given time.
Ranking highest in the deck, Luminary cards are played against opponents in skirmishes and battles and may also be used for their special abilities.
Every Luminary has a set of unique powers that can be used at different times during the game—as detailed on each Luminary Mat.
A complete game of Renaissance Wars consists of three to four rounds that span over four different ERAS.
Each round consists of two phases:
ENCOUNTER PHASE: During this phase you play cards and use your Luminary powers to win skirmishes, create card combinations to earn Florins, and deal with all the things fate may throw your way!
BATTLE PHASE: This phase plays quickly, requiring a more tactical strategy when playing your cards. It is entirely possible, with thoughtful hand management, to win a round in the Battle phase, even when you haven’t accumulated many Florins during the Encounter phase!
Scoring and winning the game:
After each round is completed, players add up the Florins they have won throughout the Encounter and Battle phases and make a deposit into the Medici Vault.
A new Era is triggered when the deposits of one or more players exceed 400 Florins, causing new Immediate Event and Intrusion cards to be seeded into the play deck.
The first player to deposit 1647 Florins into the vault wins!

Risks and challenges
In business for over 45 years, U.S. Games Systems stands by our products, but sometimes issues do happen. Please contact our customer service department with regard to any such issues within 90 days of receiving your copy of Renaissance Wars. We will make every effort to correct the issue to your full satisfaction.
Renaissance Wars is being manufactured in China with a printer we have worked closely with for decades. U.S. Games Systems holds our printer to the highest quality standards. Although we cannot control the printer’s exact schedule, we are in close communication with them for every stage of manufacturing and shipping. Once the shipment of games arrives in the port of New York and clears customs, we will be able to determine when the product should be in our Stamford, Connecticut warehouse. Efficient fulfillment of your order is handled here by a seasoned team of workers and a dedicated customer service staff.
Shipping issues are relatively uncommon, but they do sometimes occur. We will obtain tracking information when it is possible, but sometimes it is not. We cannot guarantee that there will not be shipping problems, as we cannot guarantee the service and reliability of the various postal/delivery services involved around the country. You will have to assume that risk along with us.
Regarding International Shipping: U.S. Games Systems currently does not ship individual mail orders to countries outside of the U.S. and Canada. We understand that this is frustrating for some, but exorbitant shipping charges prevent us from doing so. Renaissance Wars will be available internationally through distributors shortly after delivery to our domestic backers.
This is the first solo Kickstarter campaign for U.S. Games Systems, but we worked jointly with Gryphon and Eagle Games to launch the 2014 release on Kickstarter of the Mystery Rummy Escape from Alcatraz Card Game, along with the four additional Mystery Rummy Card Games.
We communicate with our Backers through Updates to keep them informed of our progress. We deliver on our promises reliably and usually on time.
