Please help keep the music alive…
Don McLean wrote "American Pie" as a tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the great Big Bopper, who died tragically in a plane crash on their way to a show during their Winter Party Dance Tour on Feb 3, 1959.
Three brilliant young musical artists were lost that day, leaving behind legacies that were cut too short. How much incredible music did the world not get to hear because of a coin flip that put them on that plane and not the tour bus?
We have a chance to imagine. In the wreckage of the plane was a briefcase. Inside the briefcase was the Big Bopper's composition notebook, with lyrics to 20 new songs - his next few albums, which he would never get to record.
We would like to take these 20 new songs (which until 1988 were in an evidence locker in a police station), hire professional artists (some A-List, as well as some up and coming artists) to write the music and record the songs, and release a compilation album of the Lost Big Bopper penned songs.
In addition to having Buzz Campbell (Sha-Na-Na, Hot Rod Lincoln, and Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats), Graham Fenton, Slim Jim Phantom (from the Stray Cats), Ray "The King of Rockabilly" Campi, and some sponsors like Steady Clothing, Legends Gold Records, already on board to help, these songs have been presented to some exciting artists like Adele, Chris Isaak, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Brian Setzer, and Elvis Costello to engage their help finishing them.
If you help us out, there are incredible rewards waiting for you:
Help us give life to these songs. We want to hire great artists to record and finish these timeless classics written by one of Americas greatest song writers who wrote three #1 hits!. Don't let the music die…
Thank you for your support.
***IF THE PROJECT OVERFUNDS:
CAN WE HIT $100,000? The more money we raise, the bigger the talent we will be able to attract.
CAN WE HIT $1, 000,000? If so we will also produce a DOCUMENTARY about the life of the Big Bopper, the creation of this new album of lost tracks (with in-depth interviews from all the artists involved), and the story of J. P. Richardson Jr. (The Big Bopper's son - who was born three months after his father passed away) as he travels the country keeping the legacy of his father alive with the Winter Dance Party Tour (a revival band with JP performing as his father the Big Bopper, John Mueller as Buddy Holly, and Ray Anthony as Ritchie Valens. Check out their tour at www.winterdanceparty.com).
CAN WE HIT $2,000,000?! If so then we will also stage and film a LIVE CONCERT of the new album, performed by the recording artists themselves (with a DVD release)!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk and challenge is losing these incredible pieces of music history - the stories and the songs of the Big Bopper. Younger generations need to be told about the three mega-stars of the Winter Dance Party (Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper), their incredible influence on music, and the tragedy that took them all too soon. For those that remember that fateful day, this was like losing John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, or Michael Jackson - all of whom left before their time. Imagine a vault of unfinished music from any of these musical legends? Help keep the music alive! Support today!
