With Ugo. the long battery life will permit you to charge, depending of model more than 150% smartphone charge. So this leaves battery life also to listen to your music.
And all that for a more reasonable price than all 3 devices bought separately. Bought separately, a simple portable docking charger, a bluetooth speaker and a portable battery pack for charging could easily be more than 140$ + taxes (all together).

Life & Leisure, January Kickstarters | Lycos Video: " Ugo resembles a tape, but its actually a device that acts as a docking station, extra battery pack and Bluetooth speakers."
askmen: " It weighs in at less than 5 ounces and battery life lasts up to 10 hours on a charge. Ugo will be available in gold, black or silver once it ships in June."
With new mobile devices, you can use your smartphone for watching videos and listening to music... But there is a new issue. Dead batteries !
A portable and rechargeable docking station with embedded bluetooth speakers for mobile devices. We started designing it with a powerful battery, providing you with a quick charge on the go. This compact docking station is intended for your smartphones, digitals tablets and portable music devices. We’ve added a touch of nostalgic flair, bringing back the familiar audio cassette case from the eighties.
CHARGER. There will be two ways to recharge your mobile devices: via the micro USB port or by using the Ugo. docking station.
MUSIC. Ugo. will allow you to listen to your music your way: wirelessly or with a cable. For those who would like to listen directly from a cable : just connect the 3.5mm connector to your smartphone. It will be equipped with 2 embedded speakers. The built-in Bluetooth auto-pairing and linking features will ensure a simple and fast setup. Making it a breeze to listen to and control your music wirelessly!
Finally, to recharge the Ugo. battery:use the provided cable and just plug it in your computer ‘s USB port or use any USB power Adapter and plug it in an electric wall outlet.
What makes Ugo. different?
FIRSTLY, Ugo. will allow you to listen to your music while charging your electronic device, something that most of the other mini-speakers don’t offer.
SECONDLY, It is equipped with two speakers instead of just one like most other mini speakers.
FINALLY, it also makes the perfect docking station for listening to music or watching videos.
Moreover, you get a 3 in 1 device in a retro and compact format ! And all that for a more reasonable price than all 3 devices bought separately. Bought separately, a simple portable docking charger, a bluetooth speaker and a portable battery pack for charging could easily be more than 140$ + taxes (all together).
Ugo. Technical specifications
If we reach a stretch goal of 150,000$ we will add new features!
This product was devised by an electronic product developer and the creative minds of 3 industrial designers. Our passion for design and our constant will to innovate drives us to find new solutions for everyday products.
Steve Boa, AIS Innovations founder (1997) and owner, is our versatile team player who does 3D drawings and takes care of sourcing and manufacturing. AIS Innovations is a distributor of rapid prototyping, designing, engineering and reverse engineering products company dedicated to providing customers with innovative products.
Steve developed the early stage prototypes with electronic components. He is the lucky owner of 3D printers which permitted us to get many cases. He has launched his own products on the market and has contributed to award winning products for his own clients. Recently, he successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign with another industrial designer partnership.
Carolyne Gratton and Jonathan Villeneuve are two young junior industrial designers with many bright ideas. Jonathan is dedicated to 3D drawings as well as technical challenges. He is also rather versatile and could do some prototype electrical wire welding. Carolyne is definitely styling oriented and takes care of graphic design, colours, textures, market research and trends.
Finally, myself, I am an industrial designer with more than 18 years experience in product development and manufacturing. In 2004, I funded Skerpa Design an industrial design firm in Montreal after nearly ten years as industrial designer employee. My responsibilities involve all aspects of this project from campaign leader to project manager to design as well as sourcing and manufacturing.
Bringing to life product ideas that will transform and simplify your day-to-day life!
We started working on this project last fall 2012 with prototypes that have nothing to do with the actual familiar audio cassette case from the eighties. The initial concept was intended to be a small desktop docking charger with one embedded speaker and the need for listening to music while charging your smartphone at the same time without a huge music docking station. However, through the design process, Carolyne and Jonathan came up with the very cool idea of having this retro case. Then after we decided with Steve to restart new prototypes cases!
The actual prototype permits us to listen to music wirelessly or with the cable. We need to work with a PCB design company to optimize the charging option both from cable and docking station position so that Ugo. works with most of the smartphones (that use whether micro USB, 30 pins or lightning connectors).
We are now working on PHASE 5 - Sourcing for PCB designer & Board Manufacturer and EMS (for assembly) with potential partners and we are also trying a new pair of speakers that would deliver a better sound. We are currently engaged in talks with companies in the Montreal area for the upcoming phases in preparation for the first initial launch. We just need enthusiastic backers!
PHASE 1 - Sketches and ideation / DONE!
PHASE 2 - Product development and preliminary 3D drawings / DONE!
PHASE 3 - Mock-up and 3D drawings improvements / DONE!
PHASE 4 - First prototyping phase (3D printer and laser cutting) / DONE!
First Prototypes were made with existing PCB, speakers and battery from retail market to validate quickly cassette case space potential and strength for holding an iPad.

Our aim is to get pre-orders for Ugo to raise money, to enable us to launch the initial production of a new and amazing electronic device.
Our campaign won't last forever: just 50 days. So hurry and get yours!
In fact, the sooner we reach our goal the sooner we can move forward, even before the end of the campaign! After the campaign is over, this product may be sold at a retail price of 115$.
With funding we will be able to firstly work and pay a PCB Design company that will design the printed circuit board and do the software programming and help us to chose the appropriate component to meet the Certifications for FCC, IC, and CE.
Then another factory, a board manufacturer, will create the PCB that was designed as well. There will be another factory that will develop optimized injection molds to be provided to an EMS (Electronic Manufacturer Supplier) that will do all the assembly and testing for the first production launch.
You will also get the greatest multi-functional device you’ve ever laid your eyes on! Encourage us by pre-ordering your Ugo. device today. Help us deploy our product in the first semester of 2014

The real challenge of this project is to optimize and fit all of the electronic components into a compact cassette tape case from the eighties! Another challenge will be to optimize the connector circuitry on the docking station for charging. Since our early prototypes were built from existing mini speakers on the market without any space problems, we are confident that risk factors are very reduced.
This project is a kind of soft innovation in terms of product design where risks and challenges are more affected by funds availability and time. We are striving to achieve a prototype refinement for a compact electronic device with the best possible sound and battery capacity before the start of production.
The goal is also to provide a richer and more powerful sound than any existing mobile device such as smartphones or digital tablets.
However, in order to bring down Ugo.’s unit price point we must purchase minimum quantities of a few key circuit board components to reduce the initial production set up cost. In the electronic manufacturing industry, we need to have at least 1000 pre-orders to decrease production costs to a reasonable amount both for the consumers and the maker. Then our ideal goal should be 75 000$. But on the other hand, we are willing to take the risk to pay more per unit with a 55 000$ goal, to get the project taking off.
Our past product development, problem-solving and hands-on experience with factories and suppliers will allow us to successfully manage any obstacles, delays or hidden costs we encounter during the pre-production phase.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
