About this project
Say Hello to EVAK
Air takes out the freshness…so EVAK takes out the air. The longer your food is exposed to air, the faster it loses flavor (it's science). Glass containers with air-tight lids are readily available, but they trap stale air in with your precious food. Evacuate the air and keep your food fresher, longer. Our twin valve system forces the air out as you push down the lid, and lets you easily pull up and remove the lid. It's so simple- just push down, then pull up; no buttons or levers. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to design.
There are other food storage containers that remove the air but are made from plastic that comes in contact with your food. Plastics have been proven to leach chemicals into food. Even "BPA- free" plastics that don't contain bisphenol A are now being reported to contain other chemicals that mimic estrogen, leading to birth defects, cancer and other health issues. Why would you want to store food in plastic?Additionally, certain plastics are banned from Japan/ Europe but allowed here in the USA. With EVAK, only glass and stainless contact your food. No harsh plastics.
EVAK is made from the highest quality odor/ stain-free Borosilicate glass and stainless steel- the parts that come in contact with your food. The handle is made from super- strong ABS with LFGB European grade silicone gaskets on the inside.
We’ve spent the last 2 years engineering EVAK. We've made over a dozen prototypes tweaking and fine tuning, ensuring that the seal will keep sealing over and over again. It's all about the details.
Small Evak Glass:
Diameter: 95mm / 3.75"
Height: 150mm / 6"
Large Evak Glass:
Diameter: 95mm / 3.75"
Height: 250mm / 10"
Our main challenge was coming up with an automatic system that could force air out and only let air back in when the plunger was being removed. We tried many different valve designs, but finally settled with two simple umbrella style valves. Using these types of valves makes it so the product doesn't require any buttons, levers or switches to be engaged to operate, simply push down to seal, and pull up to gain access to what is inside. Our 2-valve system is sealed closed when the plunger is not in motion, but when it is pulled up, or pushed down it automatically activates one of the two valves. The system is a one step process which is another reason EVAK is so revolutionary.
One of the most challenging parts of this project was the outer gasket on the plunger that interfaces with the glass vessel. In the first design, the rubber sealed TOO well- it was nearly impossible to insert or pull the plunger out! We came up with a variety of different designs for the outer gasket, from 5 rib flanges down to a single, long flexible one. By extending the length of the flange and making it thinner, it created a very nice tight feel, without being impossible to operate. We played with glass tolerances, plastic tolerances, and a slew of other elements that all needed to be balanced out just right to ensure that every EVAK would work perfectly, every time it is operated. We did all this experimenting on an aluminum pilot mold which allowed us to adjust tweak and experiment to get the perfect feel before we opened the production molds.
Where will the money go?
Your funds will be used to help us finance the production molds that are nearly completed, and help us pay for our first order. There is a high MOQ for each SKU (we have 4) which requires significant up front capital. We've made dozens of products with the 2 factories we are using, and are 100% confident EVAK will be made and shipped. The only question will be the date- we are projecting May 1st it will be in your hands... but hopefully earlier.
December 5th- Production tooling estimated to be completed. T1's of first shots. Tweaking and polishing molds etc.
January 1st- Full production begins
January 31st- Chinese New Years- factory closes for 2-3 weeks :(
April 1- Goods shipped- on the water
April 20th- Goods arrive into our California warehouse.
May 1st (approx.)- EVAK will arrive to you!!
Note- the above schedule will entirely depend on volume. Since the glass is mouth-blown, the process is slow. We will send schedule updates as the orders come in.
INTERNATIONAL BACKERS: Rewards above $80 now have their own INTERNATIONAL pledge option that must be selected for shipping outside the US.
To CLEAN: EVAK is designed so that you can simply unscrew the stainless steel bottom for cleaning. We don't recommend submerging the handle assembly in water- just wipe clean with a damp cloth. The stainless cap and glass container are dishwasher- safe.

Risks and challenges
We are 100% confident that we will produce this item and deliver it to you. However, in product development sometimes there is an issue that arises, causing a delay. We would rather ship late, than shortcut a process resulting in an inferior product. We are projecting delivery May 1st, but if there is an issue that pops up that will compromise quality, we will for sure notify you of a delay so we can address the problem. Additionally, our projected schedule will entirely depend on volume. Since the glass is mouth-blown, the process is slow. We will send schedule updates as the orders come in.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
