A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
The Collection was inspired by the flawed approach society uses to address people with ADD and ADHD; alternatives needed to be explored. Our goal is to stimulate senses through fidgeting to help improve focus. These beautifully crafted solid pieces have been designed to optimize double-tasking and feel damn good doing it.
Fidget to focus... Wtf?
Experts say that fidgeting increases focus on the primary task at hand. The idea behind effective fidgeting is having something stimulating and soothing- but in no way a distraction. The D I D G E T S Collection are not toys; instead they are simple solid tools that work with you to maintain focus on whatever is important to you in life. And they're hella fun.
Are they for me??
They are for people with ADD, ADHD, anxiety, creatives, allies, every tier of the corporate ladder, hardcore/ lightweight fidgeters, students, design junkies, thinkers... Anyone who lives in this era of computer screens and limited attention spans...
In short, The D I D G E T S Collection is for: you, me and everyone we know.
Roll them infinitely in one hand
Rub-roll them together in both hands
Click the pleasure button
Push-pull the copper wand
Rub the worry stone and breathe
Lock them closed to create the Porta-ball
At the end of the day, there’s no one way to fidget.
We know option is important. You do you, your way.
Belen is a designer with ADHD and has been scolded her whole life because she thinks differently. So, she flipped everyone the bird and became an experiential/ product designer; utilizing her difference by inciting social change around the attitudes and misconceptions people have about ADHD.
Rachael is a writer/ filmmaker/ sales kween/ social vigilante... She's had to adapt her life many times after having both feet reconstructed, relearning how to walk (twice) and having recurring physical setbacks. Rachael thinks being labeled an 'invalid' or 'disabled' sux big time and is so over being made to feel that way.
We don't just want to make another fidget toy for the ADD and ADHD community; we want people to own their weird and feel great about it. Suck on that, 'normal'.
Yes! We love both of these materials and there are benefits and considerations to each. Be part of the discussion and help us decide what material you'd rather hold in your hand.
Marble is a handsome natural material; that is more difficult to sculpt and has a fragility factor.
Corian has the weight and style of marble; and it's easier to mold so has the capability to unlock alternative color options- stretch goals. It is the more expensive material.
We will upload a full Benefits/ Considerations table during our campaign and look forward to your deliberations! Join the convo here.
Because we are vehemently over the infantilization of: ADD, ADHD and the stigma of every other adult and child that has a mind wired to fidget.
As the sometimes wise Yeezus said "name one genius that ain't crazy".
Ummm… This reminds me of the Kickstarter for Fidget Cube, are you copying them?
No. The idea of fidgeting to focus is not a new one and we have been developing our lux line, with extensive research and the help of neurologists, neuroscientists, psychologists long before their release. Belen chose to document her research in the public sphere in order to encourage feedback and to keep the conversation of fidgeting and focus inclusive and progressive.
So, they copied you?
We hope not. But at the end of the day it’s awesome to see such a large response from the community and that, in itself, has been very validating. We have also designed lux products, focused on materiality because we believe that a smooth, cooling, solid weight is a crucial part of the design. So, we have different goals in mind.
Sooo many great articles, interviews and journals to check out through Belen’s book below or, if you wanna learn more, check out the verse on the D I D G E T S website.
UN BESO GRANDE PARA:
Reem and Liam of Heavy - check out their tunes and vibe here (so good)
And of course you! THANK YOU so much for your support. Share this with all the awesome weirdos in your life and take a moment to step back and celebrate how your differences make you a better and more interesting person. We look forward to hearing whether you wanna fidget with marble or corian.
Risks and challenges
We have decided to make a limited Collection as we want to keep quality at it’s highest and set realistic goals in which we can deliver as fast as possible. We are hooked in to the Product Design community in NYC, so we have our experienced advisory board and manufacturers on stand-by. We won't compromise on quality, so that may mean a delay in shipping at most, but we are big on communication and transparency so will keep everyone updated each step of the way.
