This project is a digital pet video game built for the Android platform, focusing on Android Wear for the player. The goal of this game is to hatch a baby critter and raise it properly by feeding, cleaning, and playing with it over a course of several weeks. As you take care of it, your critter will grow from a baby, to a child, all the way to an adult. The better you take care of it, the finer an adult it will become. An adult critter will be able to lay eggs that you can collect, hatch, and raise yourself.
The digital pet genre has already been incredibly successful; millions of people already playing these games on a variety of form factors. Android Wear is the next ideal candidate for this genre because increased mobility allows you to quickly take care of your pet all day through notifications.
For users who do not have an Android Wear device, the game will also be fully supported on Android phones and tablets.
The game will be free for anybody to download from the Google Play Store and will use in-app purchases (IAP) for users to obtain pets of a species they have not raised. Users can sign into their Google account to get Cloud saves. Your game will always be in sync.
When you first begin, you will have a blank book. However, as you raise more species, that book will accumulate tips and information about raising that pet. Try to raise as many adult pets as you can to obtain the most complete book.
The goal for this project is to raise $500 in order to obtain high-quality, original art from a professional game designer. Part of that money will also go towards supporting the game development and to fulfilling patron rewards.
Supporters of the game will get access to a variety of behind-the-scenes access to the game’s development. Anyone who pledges $5 or more will receive a code that gives them access to a toucan critter that will only be obtainable from this Kickstarter campaign. (After obtaining one, players can obtain more later from the store.)
If this project gets enough support, then I would love to add in a few more ideas.
$750 - Cross-Platform Capability
With some additional support, this game will be ported over to Android TV so that you can play with your pet on the biggest screen in your house. Additionally, a web version will be created so that you can keep tabs on any of your devices (including on iOS and Windows phones). Google Play Games will be used so you will always have your pet in sync, regardless of what device you use.
$1000 - Plethora of Pets
If this goal is met, players will get even more pets to choose from! The initial four species will double. Also, you'll be able to pick from eight unique lines of pets!
$2000 - Multiplayer Support
Do you need one more pet for your collection that your friend has? No problem! You will be able to communicate with people nearby, playing competitive games with your pets, trading pets, or helping your pets find love. Additionally, you will be able to choose from nine unique pet lines!
$5000 - Pebble Support
If this goal is reached and you have the Pebble Watch, you will also be able to have fun with a port to that watch. Along with Pebble support, you will have access to twelve unique pet lines!
Risks and challenges
As the campaign continues, the game will also be developed. After the campaign, there will be a final product. If this is not funded, it will affect the quality. I will create the graphics myself or take advantage of free resources online if funds are unattainable to compensate professional graphics designers.
The campaign is also a reflection of public interest in this project. If there doesn't appear to be enough people who want this game, it will affect how much time and effort I put into the final application.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
