I have taken the classic game of Word Golf that I first developed in 2010 and made it even better! It had been bothering me for some time that the entertainment part of the Word Golf game (in my opinion) was no where near as cool as the packaging (The miniature golf bag with the Word Golf logo and slogan imprinted on the front). Now... instead of just thinking up words of different lengths that start and end with letters rolled from a 30-sided alphabet die to complete a given hole, players get to make words from letter tiles to try and complete the holes. Plus, the new letter tile game still comes in the same great golf bag packaging!

How Word Golf plays:
SET UP -
Turn ALL 90 letter tiles face up on the middle of the table. Each player gets a game sheet pad and a golf pencil. One player is assigned as the sand timer player.
On each game sheet, there are 9 Holes. Each Hole has a certain number of letters listed. For example, the 1st Hole is listed as "11 letters".
Before playing the 1st Hole -
First, each player takes 5 letter tiles of his/her choice from the 90 letter tiles that are showing. Second, turn ALL the remaining letter tiles on the middle of the table face down, and mix them up carefully without turning any letter tiles face up again. Third, each player takes 6 letter tiles from the face down pile, but does not turn the tiles over yet!
PLAYING THE HOLE -
The sand timer player turns the two minute sand timer over and says "Start"! Next, each player flips over his/her 6 letter tiles that were face down and attempts to form as few words as possible using ALL of his/her 11 tiles. During the two minute span, if a player would like to quickly exchange any of his/her letters with the letter tiles that are on the middle of the table, he/she can do so. Once the two minute sand timer runs out, the sand timer player says "Times Up" and everyone's turn is over.
CALCULATING THE SCORE FOR THE HOLE -
Each player writes the words that were formed out of his/her letter tiles on the dashed spaces shown on the 1st hole of his/her game sheet (starting at the first Tee Hole space).
If the player's words reach the space with the flagstick hole (meaning he/she used ALL 11 tiles to make words), then he/she counts the number of words that were made and writes the number in the little box to the right of the flagstick hole.
If the player's words DO NOT reach the space with the flagstick hole (meaning he/she was not able to use ALL 11 tiles to make words), then the player looks to see if his/her words at least reached a space marked with the small labeled letters A, B, or C. If so, then he/she counts the number of words that were made, adds 1 to the number (or adds 1 stroke), and writes the total number in the little box to the right of the flagstick hole. If his/her words do not at least reach a space marked with the small labeled letters A, B, or C, then that player writes a 6 as the total in the little box to the right of the flagstick hole.
Set up before playing Holes 2 to 9 -
First, each player chooses 5 letter tiles from his/her tiles that were played on the previous Hole and keeps them for playing the next Hole. Second, the remaining letter tiles are moved back to the pile in the middle of the table, turned face down, and once again carefully mixed up. Third, each player takes as many letter tiles from the face down pile as the difference between 5 and the number of letters listed for that Hole. For example, if the Hole is listed as "12 letters", then each player would take 7 letter tiles from the face down pile.
Holes 2 to 9 play the same way as the 1st Hole, and the scores are also calculated the same way as the 1st Hole.
At the end of 9 Holes, players total up their scores from each Hole. The player with the lowest total wins the game!
Note: Illustrative Examples and other Play Options will be shown on the printed Game Rules that come with the Word Golf game.
Risks and challenges
The components of these new Word Golf games are here in stock, but the actual games are not assembled yet. This will take more time and labor than the average tabletop game to insert all the game's components into the packaging, mostly because everything will be inserted into the uniquely shaped Word Golf bag, instead of a standard box. This could cause delays in getting a portion of the games to backers by the reward's estimated delivery date. I'm tackling this challenge by offering limited quantities on some of my pledge reward levels. For example, the first 25 backers on two of the reward levels will get their game before Christmas this year. This will be especially nice if a backer wants to give it as a Christmas gift to someone.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
