About this project
To create at least 10 new illustrated portraits of animals from history, create short fictitious synopses about each one and create an ebook while involving YOU in the process.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Each spread will feature a full color illustration and a descriptive short synopsis about the animal. Sketches will also be incorporated into the book. This ebook will be pdf compatible for possible interactivity and print ready for future publication.
ABOUT THE ANIMALS
There are EIGHT spots open for YOUR pet or favorite animal. If the project comes to full term without the eight spots filled there is no need to worry. I have got plenty of ideas up my sleeve. A basset hound as Napoleon perhaps? Or maybe a pretty tabby as Betsy Ross, sewing the flag with fishes instead of stars. Let's not forget Cleopatra and her asp.....the animal subject may be one to stew on. Freda Kahlo as a jaguar or the brutal Ivan the Terrible portrayed by a bear. Possibly a companion to the Queen Cat....her half sister Mary, the scottish fold with tinges of grey on her temples.
FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE FOR FREE BY VOTING
What animals do you want to see represented? What historical figures are you interested in? I want to know! Just click here and vote.
If you take a moment to watch the video you will see some of the pets/animals that I have used as models as well as the illustrated representation of them. You will also see some of the prospective models such as Rufus the bobcat from Big Cat Rescue.
The funds will go towards the materials to make the paintings, sketches and handmade books, design, writing, editing, collateral printing, US shipping and a couple of gourmet biscuits for my dog. I will also be donating 25% of the proceeds to Big Cat Rescue.

FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN FUNDING A PAINTING
If the funding succeeds I will contact you for images of your animal, information (personal or academic) about your animal and options for some historical figures. If there is a specific historical figure you have in mind give it to me! I only ask that it is a national or world wide recognizable historical figure.
The painting will be mixed media on board. Depending on the illustration I may use acrylic, gold leaf, paper collage or oils. Every piece starts with a digital underpainting printed and mounted then painted over and treated in traditional materials.
FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN FUNDING A SKETCH
If the funding succeeds I will contact you for images of your animal. These will be more geared towards a type of historical figure vs an actual person. Think explorer, inventor, author, artist, royalty etc. I'm open for ideas so feel free to share your thoughts as to what your animal might be best suited for.
Kickstarter, as you may or may not know, is an all-or-nothing funding source. If the funding goal is not met by the deadline then your credit card will not be charged. If I exceed the goal (and I really hope I do!), there will be more opportunities to explore this digital application by adding interactivity to a pdf version. Exceeding the goal may also allow me to print hardcopy editions of this book!
If there are any other questions please contact me! I'll be happy to update with answers.
Thank you so much for reading this far down. Also check out my website, blog or store so you can see some of my other animals!
