The Ice Bandit is no ordinary ice tray. This revolver shaped mould will produce six individual ice bullets. Simply reload with water, holster it in your freezer and in no time you’ll be cooling off just like the Ice Bandit.
The Ice Bandit has been designed to accurately recreate the shape of a standard revolver cylinder. Through a design process that has focused on creating a truly unique product, the Ice Bandit is a fun addition to your freezer.
We know that you are probably wanting to buy all your friends their very own Ice Bandit. That’s why each individual Ice Bandit will come gift boxed in a clear display box with a tamper proof seal.
The Ice Bandit has been made using 100% food grade silicone rubber. Liquid silicone rubber’s characteristics and chemical properties make it an ideal material for this design. With superior temperature range performance, liquid silicone parts remain flexible at temperatures as low as -40 ̊C with minimal expansion. This means that your ice bullets will be accurate in shape and size every time. Liquid silicone rubber parts are also chemically inert, hypoallergenic and resistant to bacteria growth. They also feature high biocompatibility, which is why this material is often used in medical industries and applications. Liquid Silicone rubber can also withstand extremely high temperatures, allowing the Ice Bandit to be 100% dishwasher safe.
In addition to the ice tray, we are also offering Kickstarter backers an exclusive (Kickstarter only) Ice Bandit fridge magnet. This magnet has been included so you can let everyone know when the Ice Bandit is cooling off. This magnet measures 50mm (width) x 40mm (height). Fridge magnets will be included with every early bird purchase.
During January 2017 the design of the Ice Bandit was finalised as a concept. This led to a number of prototypes produced in food grade silicone rubber using 3d printed moulds. After a period of concept refinement and part modification, a manufacturer was approached in early February to quote for the project. Since February we have been working closely with a manufacturer who specialises in the process of silicone rubber molding. This collaboration has allowed for an extensive process of design refinement which has proven extremely valuable in helping to streamline the design for mass production of the Ice Bandit. At this stage, production tooling has been produced with tooling samples created and tested. As the design is ready for mass production, we are launching on Kickstarter to be able to begin the first production run! In addition to the Ice Bandit itself, packaging, labels and magnet suppliers have all been sourced with orders ready to be placed. This preparation has been done to help stick to the above timeline once the Kickstarter campaign has ended and ensure that all rewards are shipped within the given time frames.
The Ice Bandit: Often referred to as ‘a bit of a hot head’, the Bandit is known for his short temper and sporadic outbursts. Despite these personality traits, the Ice Bandit is generally a pretty nice guy - for a bandit. Classically trained, this outlaw has worked for many years as a professional bandit, conducting high profile train robberies and other risky heists throughout the Wild West. With his two best friends by his side (Smith & Wesson), he is a force to be reckoned with.
Blake: As a practicing Industrial Designer working at one Australia’s top Industrial Design firms, Blake has extensive experience in developing a wide range of products from concept design to manufacturing and mass production. This includes working collaboratively with a number of international manufacturers to develop products in a variety of industries from medical and mining to consumer goods and leisure products. With a portfolio that includes award winning work, Blake aims to design products that focus on how individuals interact with their everyday world.
The Ice Bandit has been a dream that I have worked towards for almost two years now. After multiple design iterations and an extensive development process the time has come to bring this dream to reality, and ultimately into the hands of backers around the world. Thank you for all your support and we hope that you back this project today to be one of the lucky few to own your very own Ice Bandit.
Risks and challenges
As with any project, there are inherent risks with producing a new product. As a practicing product designer, I understand this first hand. To help negate some of the issues that commonly occur with any new product, almost every stage has been carefully considered. As the tooling has already been produced, the largest cost has already been accounted for.
From tooling to transport and handling logistics of shipped goods, each stage of the manufacturing process has been factored into the project's budget and timeline . A detailed plan has also been created to outline all costs involved in the execution of the project.
I base my reputation as a designer on my ability to provide a quality product in a given time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
