What’s up Kickstarter! Thanks for visiting our page… hope you liked our video. We’ve been looking forward to introducing you to the LOOP Nano and gaining your support to make our vision a reality. Check out ways to contribute to the right.
Here is a bit more about our project:
What is the LOOP Nano?
The LOOP Nano is a one piece silicone watchband that seamlessly integrates the 6th generation iPod Nano into a high-end time piece. As if the idea of an Apple electronic as a fashionable wristwatch isn’t compelling enough, you have an entire suite of Apple functionality at the swipe of a finger. Sure, you have the standard capabilities like access to your music collection and Apple’s signature Genius DJ, but it also comes loaded with a pedometer and is Nike + compatible for all your fitness needs. Why clip it on your shirt when you can sport it on your wrist during your next workout.
When we set out to design the LOOP Nano, we knew we had to separate ourselves from the myriad of other options that had become available over the past several months. With that in mind, Chris (our industrial designer) hit the drawing boards and began developing a concept we could bring to the market. There were several principles which guided his design.
1. The band had to be comfortable with no sharp edges contacting the skin.
2. The band had to be simple to attach and remove from the iPod Nano.
3. The band had to integrate seamlessly with the iPod Nano in order to create a slim profile and avoid excessive bulk. In addition, female sizing had to be accommodated.
4. The band would have to have a low price point and tasteful color selection... offering the capability to complement one's wardrobe or lifestyle.
With those principles in mind, a prototype was developed which met these goals. The LOOP Nano on its own is quite attractive, every aspect of the band was meticulously designed, but when the iPod Nano is in place, it becomes an entirely different product. Together they become a single entity, their form and function wrapped into a truly unique, comfortable, and stylish wristwatch.
We’re starting with six colors (retailing at $19.99), although if we reach our funding goal we will work to expand the selection. That said, we hope you find a color or colors that emphasize your style, no matter your wardrobe, mood, or lifestyle.
Keep an eye out on our website (www.loopattachment.com) for a chance to vote on the next round of colors.
Who is LOOP?
The LOOP was created through the combined efforts of Evan Derman, Christopher Peterson, and Dan Selden, three creative professionals who were driven to develop an accessory for the 6th generation iPod Nano. As a group, we represent several disciplines- Evan works as a social media and marketing consultant, Chris as an industrial designer and product planner, and Dan as a designer/web developer- and so we found lots of ways to support each others’ efforts. We are constantly looking for new ways to improve the relationship we have with our electronics, and while this round of design efforts are coming to a close, keep an eye out for news of upcoming projects and potential giveaways by following us on Facebook and Twitter… if we get our foot in the door, we’d love to keep you informed.
Some thoughts on the iWatch...
The concept of the iWatch has been floating around the web for quite some time… the concept of a computer on the wrist has been around even longer (think Dick Tracy). However, in this age of smart-phones and tablet computers, watches have quickly become obsolete, acting solely as fashion accessories with limited functionality. But when Steve Jobs announced the 6th generation iPod Nano, the design community got right to work, recognizing the immense potential such a device offers when set on the wrist.
Think of it as a portal to other personal electronics… our phones, home entertainment, even home utilities… the interface and physical build of the iPod Nano offers a great platform for the development of such applications. Sure a smart-phone can already accomplish many of these things, but it’s tucked away in your pocket most of the time. Imagine starting your car with the swipe of a finger, dimming the lights, or even receiving push notifications from your cell phone… the iPod Nano isn’t hooked up to the App Store yet but just like the iPhone, the iPad, and now Apple’s line of Laptops, extending such a marketplace to a new canvas would be a move ripe with potential. We’re excited to see in which direction Apple takes this new device and are standing ready to continue bringing you the best methods of attachment.
Thank You for Your Support,
Evan, Chris & Dan
