Final Update video during the campaign!
Tales of Alethrion is a 2d non-dialogue fantasy web series that started with the short film The Reward, created by Mikkel Mainz and Kenneth Ladekjer. Thanks to two successful Kickstarter campaigns and an epic community, we were able to make the first season consisting of The Reward, The First Hero, Thug’s Life, Wilhelm’s Curse and Travelling Deity. It is a YouTube channel full of lore and adventure. The project is free on YouTube and has now more than 100K subscribers!!
If you choose to support this kickstarter you help us make new animated episodes for the web series "Tales of Alethrion". It is based around the community, so thank you everyone for being here and supporting or checking the project out! No matter what type of adventurer you are, it is epic-high-five-worthy if you share the campaign and series.
It is important for us to be transparent and that backers are updated through this campaign and project. Look out for news in the updates and on the social media platforms. There will be Live Q+As, a drawing competition, new content and more.
We follow Vito and Wilhelm’s life long journey guided by Alethrion’s map.
The First Hero
Many years before The Reward, we see how the mysterious map was created by Alethrion and what awaits at the X on the map. We also learn about his ex-girlfriend Amerath.
Thug’s Life (comic episode)
Mira, Uruth and Zit have the world against them and decide to team up and make their own way of life. Mira hates Alethrion’s map since Bruhn used it as an excuse when he left her pregnant with Tira. When the map shows up again years later she makes a terrible decision.
Wilhelm has turned into a vampire and needs to find a cure. Vito finds a cure which only shows up during a full moon - but he falls in love on the journey, which ends up being a challenge for the duo and their adventuring.
Amerath is alone after Alethrion leaves her. She finds a strange demigod trapped in a bottle among Alethrion's belongings - it wants to stop Alethrion. Amerath becomes friends with the creature but doesn't want to have anything to do with Alethrion.
Blenn is a half blood Lizard creature. He feels like an outsider among the full blood lizards. He leaves his hometown to seek out his father.
In season two we follow up on some of the cliff hangers we have been left with in season one. What happens when Tira finds Wilhelm? What kind of guild (The Ever Watching Eye) is it really Wilhelm has become a member of? Will the chest be found and opened by Mik and Ken, who have the treasure map? What happens when the chest opens up again? What will happen with VIto and his new family and is Blenn really his bastard son? We know the characters now - but how will their tales go from here?
The goal for this campaign is to make an episode (7-10 min) for the Tales of Alethrion series. There will be longer and more episodes for each stretch goal we reach after that.
For the budget curious: The money from the Kickstarter will be used to make the second season of Tales of Alethrion. We know from the two previous Kickstarter Campaigns that a lot of the money will go to the platforms and the rewards as well. The Kickstarter fee plus the payment processing fee combined is approximately 9%. The making of the rewards and the printing and packing of books, art prints, cards, etc. is hard to estimate but it would be approximately 30%. Here is a little pie-chart showing you the estimated budget plan:
It is costly to make an animation film. The film production funding will be going to story development, designs, storyboards, animation (keys, rough animation, clean animation, color, shadows and rimlights), layouts, backgrounds, compositing, editing, voices, sound and music.
You might have seen other animation Kickstarter campaigns asking for much more. It would normally be more expensive but since this is a small team and an indie project, we will be able to make it for this cost. The more funding the better we can make it.
The project will be made in Skjald (skjaldcreative.com) which is a studio created by Mikkel Mainz who is the director of Tales of Alethrion and was one of the original founders of Sun Creature. When Sun Creature grew and focused their energy on other projects, Mikkel left with the goal of continuing the Tales of Alethrion series. Besides making The Reward and Tales of Alethrion he also worked on Song of the Sea (Noerlum, Cartoon Saloon), Ivandoe (Cartoon Network), Emara (Shooting Stars), among other cool 2D projects.
Mathias Valiant, the musician and composer of the series, is on board and ready with some fine tunes. Mikkel and Mathias have been working together since The Reward (2013).
The creative team will be new and old story-boarders, background artists, compositors and animators that we trust or have been working with before.
Vito and Wilhelm : Two friends with opposite personalities who have performed heroic deeds through most of the land. After many years together they have now separated. Wilhelm is now a vampire and has chosen to become a member of The Ever watching Eye's guild. Vito has settled with his pregnant wife Gaya in Inspiration Forest.
Bruhn: A good looking noble hero who most people have heard of in tales, but not many have seen his heroic actions in person. He is also the father of Tira, whom he has not met yet.
Mira: This blueskin never had bad intentions. The civilized world was just not as civilized as she had hoped for, so she decided to not go by their laws.
Uruth and Zit: The two lost souls who found a home in each other and their leader Mira. When Mira was killed by Wilhelm, they were left with her parent less child, Tira.
Tira: A love affair between Bruhn and Mira resulted in the birth of Tira. She never knew her father, and her mother was killed. She wants revenge over Wilhelm and has been seeking it for many years.
Alethrion and Amerath: The great hero Alethrion and the backpacker Amerath were in a relationship in their youth. Alethrion went on a dark path after they separated and ended up being the shell of a greedy deity, growing inside of him. He trapped it in his magical chest before dying from its attacks. Amerath found a demi-deity among Alethrion's belongings who ended up donating it's powers to Amerath, granting her vision abilities. She predicted that bad things will happen if Alethrion's chest is ever opened.
Mik and Ken: Vito and Wilhelm saw something recognizable in these two boys and passed the map on to them. Now they are on their way towards Alethrion's chest.
Sylvia and Tatiana: Two girls who know about the treasure map. They tried to take the map from Vito and Wilhelm but it had already been passed on to Mik and Ken by then.
Blenn and Jarna - Vito had several flirts through his adventuring years, before meeting Gaya. He has no idea that he made a lizard queen pregnant after saving their village. Now, many years later, he has a half lizard child trying to find him, travelling with his lizard friend, Jarna.
Alethrion's Greed - It is waiting to be found... Again.
Thank you everyone who has been a part of the journey of making this series! Thanks for supporting and remember to share the campaign and YouTube channel. Throw some coins at the bard and he will sing! High Fives!

Risks and challenges
There is a risk of the estimated delivery time being wrong (rewards and episodes). It is difficult to predict, but we will do our best to be within the estimated time. In previous Kickstarter campaigns for the project, we needed to spend a long time making the rewards (art books, RPG books, etc). This time there are a lot of reprints, which hopefully will give us time for more animation.
It is always a challenge to be realistic with the budget. Much of it goes to either packaging, making the rewards, etc. I would like to be able to make episodes that are not too short, therefore some things will be compromised as usual, such as the amount of frames per second. The more stretch goals we reach the, better since each extra episode help the team get into the workflow and pipeline.
We don't expect anything to go wrong, but should it happen then we will let you know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
