About this project

TIGTONE! It's a short film that plays on the conventions of both fantasy and Hollywood filmmaking in general. It's a sort of "Dada Dungeons & Dragons" where aggressive nonsense is treated with dramatic reverence. This Kickstarter project encompasses the first adventure in a series, and it will be used as a pitch piece to help make that series a reality.
A major component of the style is the use of completely authentic and exceptional fantasy art from the same illustrators that paint the RPG books and Magic cards that inspired the film. When I settled on this visual style, it became important to find a way to bring it to life in a manner befitting the grandeur of epic fantasy.
A completely unique animation process was invented for this project and puts it in its own class apart from all the other fantasy comedy out there. The characters' faces deform and warp based on motion capture data, creating some of the only 2D motion capture character animation in existence. Because of this, the illustrations live and breathe with frightening levels of detail. It's unlike anything ever created, and it's both cool and grotesque at the same time.
The video above shows some of the in-progress animation. Please forgive any plug-in demo related watermarks... their removal is part of my Kickstarter goal!
THE CAST: There are two principal characters in this adventure. They are TIGTONE, a catch-all, somewhat generic brooding hero that could fit into any 13 year old's RPG campaign, and the GHOST WIZARD, who fills the role of the cryptic quest giver.
The voice of Tigtone is NILS FRYKDAHL, known for his work in the band Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. This hellishly charming man adds a majestically melodramatic and intense flair that perfectly fits the overwrought drama of the animation.
There are still a few side characters to cast, so stay tuned for even more special friends to stop by and join in the "fun".
PRODUCTION THUS FAR AND THUS FUTURE: A ton of great art has already been created. The character designs and extremely elaborate main illustrations of the characters have been finished. Many backgrounds have also been fully rendered and painted. Most of the dialog has been recorded, and the motion capture has been recorded for the entire film. I have paid for all of the film out-of-pocket thus far, and now the remainder of the funds needed are to pay talented artists to create more illustrations. Once the rest of the art is done, I'll be able to finish the animations and send 'em off to Tigtone co-creator Benjamin Martin for editing and post-production. From there, the film becomes the beacon of hope to deliver unto us dozens, if not millions, more romps through this unyieldingly confounding fantasy land.
Will Tigtone save our universe, the way only a fictional hero can? Or will he plummet into darkness eternal, the way only a real hero can? The success of Tigtone's quest dependith on you!
