Just a quick note
We have already set up all the tooling required for the amazing Firepods, ready to start production. However, the weak £ to US$ has put our manufacturing costs up substantially. With your help we can increase the size of our first batch and get the costs down to a reasonable level again.
We will start manufacturing as soon a we reach our target and you will receive your Firepod about 75 days later.
Please note that the Griddle Sets and Lava Stone Sets will be available through our website after Kickstarter finishes. This is because we are concentrating getting the Firepods to you without delay. Please see risks and challenges below.
One Firepod - Three Ingenious Uses
1) Pizza Oven - fresh authentic stone-baked pizzas
Whether you make your own pizzas from scratch (it's surprisingly easy!), buy a base and add the toppings or use ready-made ones (fresh or frozen), your Firepod will cook 12" pizzas in a matter of minutes. It's remarkably quick to heat up - we've had a fresh thin crust pizza cooked and ready to eat just 10 minutes after ignition!
Keep it simple...
...or let your creative juices flow.
2) Hot Lava Stone - sizzling steaks and vegetables
Swap the pizza stone for the special lava stone, heat it up in the Firepod and take it to your table, indoors or outdoors, on our special wooden board for some fun and healthy hot stone cooking. Hunter-gatherers have used heated stones to cook on for over 30,000 years. Now you can enjoy a highly sophisticated version of this ancient cooking technique.
Great fun for all ages
3) Reversible Griddle - perfect BBQ and breakfast foods
Pop the griddle in and your Firepod can cook like a BBQ. Ideal if you take it camping or away to events, but also great on your patio or balcony.
The reversible griddle - one side flat....
the other with ridges
Small and compact for any size garden
A few things that make the Firepod special:
Compact, light and truly portable
Quick - to heat up and to cook
The door keeps heat in even when windy
All the wooden parts are beautiful solid oak
A stainless steel rail stops pizza falling into the back of the oven
A simple but effective door catch which can cope with the heat
Auto ignition, gas control and inspection hole to check the flame
Superb at home and away:
Grown up parties!
Festivals, horse eventing, track days, Grand Prix...
Camping & Glamping
By the hot tub
- Town Gardens
- Spur-of-the-moment parties
- Indian and other flatbreads
From an idea conceived high in the Italian Alps...
The Firepod project started from our desire to cook true authentic pizza back at home just like the ones we enjoy when working in Italy,
We wanted an oven which:
- Cooked perfect pizzas
- Was quick to set-up and heat up
- Was easy to use (and clean)
- Was truly portable
- Didn't take up too much of the garden
- Was affordable
- Would double up as a BBQ
- Could be used all year around
- Looked great
We searched for such a product for over a year and then concluded that the only option was to design our own.
We spoke to a friend who works in product design and he pointed out that having no experience in the pizza, bbq or food industries gave us big advantage. We were concentrating on lifestyle features rather than technical details. "Many great products come from potential customers for products that don’t exist – yet," he added.
For the technical stuff we found an excellent design company, Jedco Product Design in Weybridge. They've won many awards including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2015. Gavin took our brief and went on to design a product that's better than we had ever imagined - The Firepod as it stands today!
We produced our first prototype last year and have been testing, tweaking and perfecting ever since.
Our biggest challenge has been to balance the heat so that the pizza base and toppings cook at an even rate. We tested many different stones and burners until we got it right. Our new burner is not only hotter but also more fuel efficient and in converts easily to natural gas.
Our colleagues in Italy (serious pizza guys who study pizza, advise restaurants and make pizzas to die for!) made it clear that the 500ºC reached by some pizza ovens is way too hot for perfect pizzas. 300ºC to 320ºC is perfect as it gives the dough time to rise as it cooks making a lighter, crispier base. But higher temperatures are good for flatbreads, so we designed The Firepod to go up to more than 400ºC. Being gas-fired it's easy to control the temperature.

Risks and challenges
As we mentioned at the start, we have completed the design and development phase. Unlike many crowdfunded projects, we have also paid for and completed the tooling process, so all the machines necessary for manufacturing are ready and waiting for our command. Your Firepod will be ready to send to you about 70 days after production starts.
This does substantially reduce the risk of delays. We have several Firepods which have been produced during tooling and the red one in the photos above is the real thing.
The griddle and lava stone sets may take a little longer to deliver depending on how well Kickstarter goes. We have planned to concentrate on the Firepods first, however if we reach £50k we will be able to manufacture them at the same time with no delay to the Firepods.
DIstribution is all organised so I can see no reason for any delays .Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
