Update July 15, 2010: We have a new goal of $3500 (the number above remains at $2000 because of how Kickstarter is structured). When we dreamed up Tiny Tropolis we imagined we'd be extremely lucky to have 50 artists commit to creating mini-worlds in boxes. As the crew of artists grows (we are now at 100) and as your generous contributions have grown, the work grows and our imagination of what is possible grows as well. We're now confident that if we can reach $3500 in funding here, we'll be able to bring to reality a vision of an incredible line of boxes lit up by solar powered orbs bookended by beautiful entryways… and we'll be able to honor the artists who are making this installation happen in a worthy manner with a humble gathering. Please help us reach our new goal of $3500. Many thanks for your generous contributions.
Description: Imagine, if you will, a 160 foot long row of 100 identical white boxes stretching out into the middle of the desert. No this is not a mirage. This my friends is Tiny Tropolis. A collaborative Burning Man art installation for 2010's burn that is truly international. We've assembled a crackerjack team of over 100 Tiny Artists from states all over the US as well as from Ireland, England, Canada, and New Zealand. Each artist has their own creative vision for their own Tiny installation and together we unite to form Tiny Tropolis, the tiniest little city in the world:
Our vision has been well received and we were awarded a grant from the Burning Man Art Grants Committee: http://www.burningman.com/installations/10_art_honor.html#tiny
The only challenge is that we started with the goal of 50 dioramas and we've now doubled our city's population. With the doubling of size, comes extra expense and we're asking for your help to make Tiny Tropolis a reality.
HERE'S WHAT WE NEED:
We have the artists. We have the dioramas. Now all we need is a little more capital to help fund the following:
- Materials for the support structure that holds the dioramas. - Safety lighting for the exterior of Tiny Tropolis. - Two entrances / gates, one at either end of town. - Truck Rental to bring the dioramas to Black Rock City, NV.
We're really close and now all we need is a little help to get us over the hump. All of our time is 100% donated and our amazing Tiny Artists are donating their time and materials as well. No amount is too small so give whatever you can.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
