Ever felt stuck with busy, covered or dirty hands?
Meet Bixi, the first ultra-portable companion that senses your in-air hand gestures and commands your favorite smartphone Apps, LifX & Hue bulbs, Internet Speakers, GoPro and many other IoT devices.
Control fluidly your devices without putting your current activity on pause.
Just wave your hand and let the Magic happen!
You can control multiple actions of two apps or devices at the same time with Bixi. For example, you can be on your bike with Bixi on ‘Music’ & ’GoPro’ profiles and control both your songs and your GoPro with only gestures. Other such examples are:
- Music & Lights control (Home)
- Reading & door-lock control (home)
- GoPro & Music control (on bike)
- Phone/SMS & Music control(In car)
Fiddling with electronic devices on the road creates visual and cognitive distractions. With Bixi, you can drive safely and control your Music, Calls, Navigation, SMS, etc. without even looking at your phone.
One Bixi can control multiple devices at the same time.

Bixi works via Bluetooth Low Energy protocol and the Bixi App connects Bixi to other devices based on Wi-Fi or other protocols.
You can control two devices or Apps at the same time. Simply choose them in the Bixi App, connect Bixi to your iOS or Android mobile phone and use the Bixi app to set up the device profiles you wish to use Bixi for.
Many backers have messaged us asking for API release to create their own use-cases. We've built Bixi to make gesture recognition usable by everyone and extending its use-cases is only limited by user imagination.
The API for Bixi will be available end of Q1-2017 and we call all interested developers to contact us at - contact@bluemintlabs.com. The API will be on the lines of our IFTTT Channel. So you can already start using Bixi with your devices via IFTTT till the API is released.
Here are some ideas:
While voice control works, it is not without its limitations:
- Often requires a continuous internet connection
- Often limited by language & accent constraints
- Not immune to loud music & background noises
- Most importantly, not secure. (Anyone can activate and accidentally/intentionally control your home including someone talking on TV!)
Our Journey so far....
Production Update #1 (11/3/2016): This week, our manufacturing partner Flex assembled the first production quality Bixi. Our production assembly bench in being set up and test programs being optimized for quick testing of each piece. In order to ensure a sturdy, durable product we have subjected our beta units to tough tests such as drop tests on hard tiles and putting them in a hot temperature oven.
- Bixi is noted among ABI Research's 2016 'HOT TECH INNOVATORS' list.
- Consecutively in 2015 & 2016, Bluemint Labs has been selected as one of the top 28 tech startups in France & with official 'La French Tech' label.
- One of the winners of Samsung-Legrand Hackathon where Bixi controlled Legrand windows, lights & sockets via Samsung’s Artik Cloud.
- Grant award from BPIFrance.
Did you know that "bixi" is the name of a Chinese Mythological turtle? Like a turtle, Bixi is compact, sturdy and has a hexagonal shape.
Because Bixi is much more than a gadget, able to help you take full power of your connected life, we really wanted a design that gives Bixi, the look of a lovable companion.
A turtle is said to be an intelligent and wise character, and Bixi follows this path by being the only ultra-portable solution that achieves complete gesture processing locally in the device.

Risques et défis
From showing a working form-factor demo at CES Las Vegas in Jan' 2016 to getting close to shipping now, Bixi has come a long way. This has been made possible with a talented team, seed-funding and strong world leaders as partners for R&D and production.
At the time of launch of this campaign, we have already received first tooling results from manufacturing and they look good. We have sent those Bixis to our Alpha Testers across the world who have already appreciated the build quality.
We seem to be on-target for the first pre-series delivery early January. However, there are always risks that can delay the process of getting Bixi in (front of) your hands. These could be unexpected events on the production line such as delays by a supplier to deliver a component on time or some minor yet important product enhancements to be done.
Even when we start shipping, there's always a risk of the product getting stuck in customs, either when we are receiving the products from the factory or shipping them to you. We are taking measures though to prevent such issues.
We are committed to provide with you an exceptional user-experience with Bixi and are striving hard to achieve on time delivery. By pledging in our campaign, you have become part of our journey and we will be communicating regularly on the progress to get Bixi delivered to you.
