About this project
Laser Fury is a 1 - 4 player online/local Action RPG Brawler. Inspired by the likes of Diablo 2, Ninja Gaiden, and PSO. Designed with fast paced and explosive combat paired with hordes of enemies and dynamic bosses. A diverse skill tree system, along with a high quality pixel art style. Online co-op is a massive focus for us. We have been building this from the start with seamless online play in mind. In fact, all of the gameplay in the trailer above was recorded over online play!
After a successful mission, a team of mercenaries known as ‘Laser Fury’ found themselves in a crisis when their ship is suddenly infected by an unknown alien organism. The team fought on through the growing infection (that had quickly cloaked the entire ship) to reach the escape pods in bay 152. Due to an abrupt gravity pull from a near by planet, the escape pod was thrown directly toward this uncharted territory. Now, stranded, and with no means of communications, Laser Fury must find a way off this mysterious world.

We love allowing players to pick the same class, but have different paths and in the end become differently styled characters in their abilities. With the skill trees, we are giving each skill two separate style paths to choose. Some can be crowd control or a powerful single target attack, others can be offensive or defensive depending on your style with your friends.
Each character gets 4 skills with two evolution branch options on each.
The Blaze Arrow is one of the four basic starter skills for the Ranger. Allowing the ability to fire a quick and explosive heat arrow to devastate your enemies, upgrading for larger explosives and speed before evolution.
The Ranger's Black Hole Arrow ability is one branch off of the Blaze arrow, that has a more tactical approach that pulls in enemies, bundling them up for the next powerful attack. This evolution takes the blaze arrow it into a unique direction that takes advantage of the Ranger’s abilities to control gravity.
The other branch off of the Blaze arrow is a powerful Tagging arrow. This skill uses Tetra Archery’s heating ability, leaving a small amount of the arrow’s energy inside the enemies it pierces to explode moments later. Tagging Arrow allows you to go with raw and precise power as your evolution of choice.
Using your experience you have collected throughout the game, you will be able to level up your skills, unlocking large jumps in power, and even new abilities added to the upgraded skill.
The Hellion is a nimble, martyr styled character that uses the damage he receives to his advantage in his attacks. Speed is his greatest asset, allowing him to strike his enemy many times over before they get in their first attack. The Hellion has spent many years focusing to harness the secret arts of the phantom realm, allowing him to conjure himself from multiple dimensions to enhance his abilities.
The Ranger specializes in Tetra Archery, a difficult but powerful technique that focuses on manipulating energy with a unique laser bow, fashioned from the ancient Tetra Willow tree, only found on her home planet. The Tetra Archers master how to alter energy in its trajectory, heat and even the gravity around it. The Ranger was a prodigy in Tetra Archery, and is the youngest to master the technique.
The Brawler trusts in his strength most of all. His instincts make him a protector of others, leading him to focus his abilities to both deliver devastating blows and mend the wounds of his teammates with great skill. The Brawler’s weapon of choice is a pair of unique shotgun cuffs that he created himself. They are what enhance his fighting and healing abilities through special shells. Sending forward punch bursts with backwards blasts to propel his punches and to thrust himself in to battle, or create powerful areas of protective healing.
The Elementalist is a focused warrior that relies on mixing her magic and blade abilities to give her a great advantage in battle. She relies on the strength of the elements to surprise her enemies with raw power. In her travels, she has begun to adapt the elements within each other, opening the world of mixing different elements together, something that only a select few have ever achieved.

Bosses in Laser Fury will use the environments to their advantage, allowing for creative, explosive, and unexpected combat. We want boss battles to be fun and memorable, while putting your abilities to test.
Each area will have a unique Elite specialist enemy. We plan each one to be somewhat unexpected, with multiple forms, and dynamic abilities, intended to shake up the battlefield.
Each small or medium sized enemy will have their own personality and offensive approach. We are mixing up the fighting styles of each of them to create a unique experience in every environment.
The Soundtrack has many different elements ranging from intense, beefy battle music to the more ambient and atmospheric tracks. A big part of the overall sound is the delicate balance between action and exploration and we give the environments just what they need - if you're running through a damp, eerie cave, you'll certainly feel that in the soundtrack. Featuring a mixture of sounds including orchestral instrumentation combined with synths and hard-hitting drum kits, Laser Fury has just the right amount of variation and vibes to give a memorable and thrilling experience.

Design an enemy with us! You will get to design the sprite with us on a Skype group chat, as well as designing the enemy's personality and attacking style. As well as that, you will receive original hand-drawn and water coloured concept art of your enemy by Marek Jarocki!

Simon got his start by co-creating and designing the photo app Afterlight, starting from a hobby in photography and color processing. After sparking a love for games when playing Mega Man X as a child, there has since been nothing more on his mind than games and game design. He and Trevor put this team together to delve into a strong passion for indie games, specifically including online co-op and explosions, of course. He strongly believes that allowing creative freedom, having a collaborative environment, and heavy communication is what has made this team a success so far.

Trevor VandenBos - @RandySaggage

Trevor has always been interested in building things with Legos or K'nex. Even as a little kid, he would secretly stay up past his bed time and create massive structures or cities. Since the age of 14, he knew that he wanted to be a part of the game industry and ever since, he had dedicated his life to learning how to create 3D environments. He took advantage of his high school's 3D modeling classes to learn Softimage, and went through an accredited focus program that his school offered in 3D art. He has spent much of his spare time forwarding his knowledge in environment modeling, texture painting, and lighting along with anything else that may help improve his skills. Through college, he learned how to work hard, manage his time along with how to use many intensive programs such as the Unreal Development Kit, Zbrush and Maya. Since then, he has been dabbling in a little bit of everything, to better himself as an all-in-one kitchen applience.

Johan has practiced pixel art for 14 years. He first got in contact with the art medium on the forum Pixelation, where he learned by getting yelled at and eventually left to look for his own style. His first contact with video games was the MSDOS game "Magic Carpet" that worked horribly on the new PC his family had bought. But it lit a spark in his heart and since then, he dreamed of making and playing awesome games. Today, he's considerably older, seldom gets his hair cut and stopped drinking coffee because it made him stay awake at night, thinking about game ideas rather than sleeping. Occasionally he also works as a freelance pixel artist and is very soon releasing with his first own title, Dr.Green.

Born into royalty, Tony was destined to stand upon Pride Rock and rule the Sahara. However, his cruel uncle had other plans. Plotting with the hyenas, the uncle devised a plan to kill the current king of Pride Rock and replace Tony, the heir. The plan succeeded, resulting in him leaving to live in exile. Later in life, after talking to a cloud formation in the shape of his father, he was convinced to take his rightful place as the king of Pride Rock. He returned and overthrew his uncle in an epic battle. Tony then went on to become a game programmer.

Rafael fell in love with games at 8 years old when he first saw Alex Kidd in Miracle's World at his cousin's. Always prone to drawing, he studied art and animation hoping someday he would work with games and comics. Nowadays he does both, working as a freelancer for games like Shantae and Skullgirls, among others, and creating his own comic in his freetime, Seclusion Thunder.

Case has been studying music for over 8 years and instantly fell in love with video games ever since he laid his hands on the SEGA Genesis back in the day. Laser Fury has been in our minds for about a year now, as we spent a lot of time designing and preparing this game. Back in early June, we got together the team and began all of the programming and art to create what you see here. We're incredibly proud of what we have done in those months, but now we need your help to finish this. This has become something that has much more potential than we originally imagined, and we’re only at the beginning, but we can't do it alone!

Risks and challenges
We have most of the game already planned out, ready to move forward. What you see here was all designed, polished, implemented, and programmed within 3-4 months after a year of planning and designing. We are very confident in our team's efficient and tidy workflow for a 2015 release if we reach our goal.
