About this project
SANCTUARY'S DAUGHTER is an inspiring story about a mother, a daughter, and a church. It is also a timely story about our nation's ongoing struggle with the painfully divisive issue of immigration.
July 2010 marks the three-year anniversary of when we went into production on SANCTUARY'S DAUGHTER. That's when our subjects, 17-year-old Anabella and her mother Yolanda, made a radical decision to try and stay together, in the face of a deportation order that threatened to tear them apart. For the past three years, immigration has taken a back burner to other issues facing our nation. But recently, it has exploded back into the headlines, especially with the passage of Arizona's controversial new measure SB1070. On July 1 (the date of this posting), President Obama gave his first major address on immigration. Immigration reform is alive. It might even happen this year. Clearly, now is the time to finish and release SANCTUARY'S DAUGHTER, so that it can play a role in helping to resolve our nation's immigration crisis.
We have a great business plan for how we will market and distribute SANCTUARY'S DAUGHTER, once complete. We need cash to finish it. Out of a total production budget of $37,000, we are seeking to raise $9,036 during the month of July, in amounts small and large, from as many different donors as possible. We want to make this a community project of our families, friends, and colleagues. We know that not all of us hold the same opinions on immigration. Our story is told gently, thoughtfully, and with respect for all points of view. We think it can make a difference.
