Just as The Kingswood was put up for sale, a fantastic treasure was discovered at its heart. Now the pressure is on. Each Great Merchant House builds roads to that treasure, attempting to use the gold to buy The Kingswood itself!
In The Kingswood, you can change the landscape of the board through cunning role choice and clever road placement. Each round, choose a role to gain the abilities you need to succeed, then outwit your rivals with crafty manipulation of the routes to stay one step ahead.

"it’s hard to be too upset when you just got trounced by a sloth"
"The Kingswood offers a nice variety of game mechanics that blend well together, and I’ve really enjoyed it. The artwork is fun, and the game is pretty straightforward to learn."
- Jonathan Liu, Geek Dad (Geek Dad Preview)
"The Kingswood is remarkably easy to follow, making the game’s depth less about heavily weighted decisions or complex turns, and more about making the right moves in an ever-fluctuating landscape."
"The Kingswood proves to be a lightweight but conflict-driven game that requires players to think ahead. While the simple board design and artwork resemble a children’s storybook, the game has a surprising amount of strategic depth."
- Staff of The Cardboard Republic (Cardboard Republic Preview)
"All-in-all the “theme” is fun and sets the perfect mood for the game – which is casual and family-friendly. Yet, there is a twist of interaction that more experienced groups can appreciate and run with."
"... the main goal is quite simple, the design extremely accessible. From that starting point, it adds a few layers of complexity. But rather than inhibiting gamers, it enhances the design."
- Jason Meyers, iSlayTheDragon (islaythedragon preview)
"The theme and mechanics blend together well in The Kingswood."
"The Kingswood manages to meld role selection and tile placement into an interesting game while adding new wrinkles into these mechanics. Each role you can select is very different and the bonus action adds more to the reve(a)l process than in other games."
- Tyler Nichols, BoardGameQuest (Board Game Quest preview)
The Great Merchant Houses Move to Make More Money
You play as one of the Great Merchant Houses attempting to buy The Kingswood. A treasure has been found at the heart of The Kingswood, and each House plans to use The Kingswood's own treasure to buy it!
As House Manatee, House Llama, House Ostrich, or House Sloth, you spring into action, building roads to connect your forts to The Kingswood treasure.
Puzzle out Paths to Subvert Rival Plans
The crux of the game is connecting to the most lucrative treasure gates by laying down road tiles - even on other road tiles already on the board.
One well placed road tile can switch the flow of gold from your opponents to you. Subverting the paths of your rivals is vital - as is reducing the ability for your opponents to do the same.
Role Selection With Great Risk and Reward
Each round, you choose 1 of 5 Roles to help you dominate The Kingswood: Merchant, Real Estate Agent, Foreman, Soldier and Spy. Each Role has specific abilities to help you get ahead, as well as determining the order players play in for the round.
You must be careful with your choice. If you choose the same Role as another, your bickering will prevent both of you from using the Role to its full potential.
Once a player has 50 or more gold at the end of the round, the game is over. If you have the most gold, you buy the deed to The Kingswood and win. It will take great cunning to succeed in The Kingswood!
Take a look at the current rules (v0.9.26) here (may change slightly on final release):

Goal $18 500 - Funding Goal
We’ll have gained enough funding to print and ship the game to backers! Yay! Games for everyone!
Stretch Goal $20 000 - 4 Alternate Art Role Cards, 1 for Each House
If we reach $20 000 in funding, we'll create four alternate art Role cards - one for each Merchant house, exclusively for Kickstarter Backers! We'll ask you, our backers, to help us decide which Role (Foreman, Soldier, etc.) for each Merchant House will get the alternate art, as well how they'll be dressed.
Stretch Goal $23 000 - Larger Board Tokens & Fancy Forts
If we reach $23 000, we will make each Merchant House have a unique Fort design. Backers will get to vote on which of the designs they think works best for each of the Merchant Houses. We will also upgrade the Board Tokens (Soldiers and Guards) to larger tokens (10 mm), for easier handling during play.

We are a group of passionate gamers and artists who are creating the games we always wanted to play. The Kingswood was a long time coming.
Alan Wong, Game Designer
Alan's loves are board games, miniature games, coffee, and board games - in that order. The result of those loves is The Kingswood. You can see his design blog detailing aspects of its creation here. You can find him on twitter at @inthelaz
Ada Robinson, Illustrator
Ada Robinson played the original prototype of The Kingswood - then known as 'The Grid', a sci-fi-themed game. After playing, her first comment was “Why not make it a medieval game about building roads?”. That was just the beginning. Soon after she was illustrating The Kingswood, bringing its denizens to life.
Dave Symonds, Sounding Board, Bright Ideas, and Head Tester
Dave Symonds is a wild and crazy guy who loves board games despite his horrible win record versus Alan. When Alan brought a game prototype to show Dave, Dave encouraged him to pursue and finish it. Along with a ton of Brain storming, testing, and endless encouragement / slave driving, Dave has been a critical part of the team. Especially when commenting on how to make the game better.

This has been a labour of love. The Kickstarter funds are to cover the remaining costs, which are for Shipping and Manufacturing.
The breakdown is as such:
- Manufacturing (50%)
- Kickstarter & Amazon (10%)
- Distribution and shipping (40%)
Besides shipping to the fulfilment center, a large part of the costs are for shipping the actual rewards to you. A table showing these costs for the Game Pledge level is below:
Risks and challenges
Production, Printing, and Shipping all have risks, especially with regards to time lines. Sometimes things happen, especially when it comes to something as complicated as manufacturing overseas, importing the product, and then fulfilling and shipping to all the Backers.
That said, quality is our #1 priority, and we won't take risks on manufacturing to get the lowest costs. We will endeavour to be as transparent as possible with regards to manufacturing and fulfilment, so no one is left in the dark.
If funded, we will stop at nothing to make sure that every backer gets a copy of The Kingswood, in the fastest possible time. We are ready and willing to put the resources needed to overcome any hiccups that might occur in fulfilment of the campaign's rewards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
