Hello and Salam!
My name is Arya Ghavamian, I'm 20 years old, and since I can remember I have been in love with cinema. I went through collecting films and artwork as a teenager towards engaging myself in photography and writing screenplays. I was born and raised in Tehran- Iran, I moved to San Francisco Bay Area four years ago, and since then I've been actively making short films and doing photography. My photography and films have been widely featured on different media, including Voice of America, Radio Zamaneh, Iranian.com, and The Creative Book. I have made three short films, and two music videos.
Mohsen Namjoo – Nameh (The Letter)
Hypernova – Universal
Life Full of Boxes (Featured at CMF Film Festival – Nominated for Best Visual Effects]
Democracy is Only The Beginning ( Finalist at the United Nations Film Fesitval [Democracy Now!] )
I have been interviewed and featured twice on Voice of America's popular Art Show “The Late Edition”
So far I've made my shorts and music videos with the help of my amazing friends and connections in San Francisco Bay Area. Now I want to share my new project with you. It is a feature film that can not happen without your help. If you have ever wanted to be a part of the film industry and haven't had the chance, now it's the best time to get into it! No donation is too small. You'll get to see a screenplay develop into a film. Apart from having this unique experience, you'll be a part of the magic of cinema and will be personally involved in making my first feature film that I have been working on for the past three years. You will help my dream come true!
“Happenings of the Eighth Day: Or Suddenly One Winter Night” is a story about an Iranian filmmaker who, in the middle of making his new film in America, faces the downfall of his relationship with his wife and his friends. Being an extremely romantic and introverted person, he spends most of his time watching films and delving into literature. He spends most of his time alone, with Ellie, or in presence of close friends. As he delves more into his film, he realizes that he has become a mere small part of the film that is developing in front of him. Although he feels uprooted from his country. His past and present are scarred with memories of political oppression and the guilt and pain he feels from not having a "homeland". Soon, the process goes out of control and the screenplay becomes an entity of its own that controls the director's life and destiny. His obsession with his film, Random visits from a mysterious censorship agency called “The 496”, haunting memories from his past experiences, and the deterioration of his relationship with his wife all conspire against him, his film, and lead him to his doom. Apart from being part autobiographical and part fiction “Happenings of the Eighth Day” has elements of a psychological thriller and is love letter to the history of cinema and filmmaking.
Why an Iranian filmmaker?
Iranian cinema has the most talented and the most original and innovative directors. Its cinema is cherished everywhere around the world. Just a few weeks ago, Asghar Farhadi made history by winning the Oscar for the Best Foreign film with his film “A Seperation”
The other side of the Iranian cinema is the extreme restrictions that are put upon the directors in Iran. Many great directors have emigrated, and a few are dealing with dire situations. Just recently, the master director, Jafar Panahi, was given 20 years ban from filmmaking and six years in jail for a film he had attempted to make.
First, as a human being, and second as an Iranian, I see this as my duty and an opportunity to portray a small aspect of the pressure that one experiences as an Iranian artist anywhere in the world.
How does this project work?
Kickstarter is a website that brings the communities together to support the aspiring artists, musicians, designers, etc. Any amount that you chip in will go towards this project if we reach our goal in 35 days, your account will be charged. Your account will not be charged if we don't reach our goal of $10,000 in 35 days. But this is a scenario that we would like to avoid at any cost.
How can I help more?

Oh wait, there are rewards? When do I get them?
YES! You're not just donating money. For each amount you pay we have exciting rewards for you! They range from signed photos, behind the scene footage, t-shirts, and tickets to the movie premiere for backers only, Skype chats with our cast and crew, and a special dinner with the director and cast.
You will be contacted about your rewards once the film is done and released!
Where does the money go to?
I want to make this film look as great as possible. Me and my team are going to use a specific kind of camera called RED cameras that will provide us with the best range of colors and details. Also, I want to be able to pay and feed my crew! None of the money will go to my personal use, every penny you spend will go towards the screen and the screen only.
Who can see how much I've donated?
Your information is secure in kickstarter. The only people who can see how much anyone has donated are us, and it's to make sure rewards go to the correct supporter!
Can I upgrade my donation?
Yes, you can always come back and change the amount you have chipped in.
The making of any film is a miracle. The amount of time that takes to fund, film, edit, market, and distribute a film is nerve racking. But we are in it for the passion of films! The joy of seeing the hard work coming to life on screen is beyond anything! Any help from you will be greatly appreciated by me and the rest of my team!
Thank you and sepaas!
