About this project
Who wants a +1 sword when you can wield something that has meaning, weight, consequence?
The Reliquary is 60 magic items for Savage Worlds and compatible with Pathfinder or 13th Age, written by Ash Law and beautifully illustrated by Chris Mcfann. Each item has a story, consequences to wielding it, and questions and prompts that will help GMs to weave any item into their game-world’s history and mythology. The book is available for 13th Age, Savage Worlds and Pathfinder.
Please refer to the list below as some of the pledges have new things that are not listed on the pledges because we are not allowed to modify it once a backer has pledged.
The Bestiary is an add-on from a previous kickstarter for those that missed it.

The Axe That Hungers
This orichalcum axe is covered with stylized gaunt faces carved into the metal. When carried into battle these etchings migrate to the edge of the blade, animating the cutting edge with hundreds of overlapping biting mouths.
To attune to the axe an adventurer must spill enough of his or her own blood onto it that they pass out. Thereafter the axe behaves as a normal d10 weapon (save for the animate properties of the axe). If the axe is unattuned it fumbles on a natural even roll, twisting in the hand of the unlucky wielder and doing 2d20 damage to the hand that holds it (if this damage exceeds half the maximum total hit points of the unattuned wielder roll a d6. On a 1 or 2 the hand has been severed at the wrist and eaten by the axe).
The axe is animate, given life by the souls trapped within it. At level 1 the axe fumbles on a 1 and scores a critical hit on a 20. At level 2 this becomes a fumble on a 1 or 2 and a critical hit on a 19 or 20. At level 3 the axe fumbles on a 1, 2, or 3 and critically hits on an 18, 19, or 20. By level 10 a roll of 1 to 10 is a fumble, a roll of 11 to 20 is a critical hit. This represents the axe animating and twisting about attempting to bite whatever is close to it.
Keeper But Not Owner
The wielder of the axe must constantly wrestle with it once the axe animates. If the wielder fumbles with the axe in combat they take their level multiplied by the number that came up on the d20 in damage unless they choose to sacrifice their move action that round. If the wielder has already moved they are out of luck, and the axe twists in their grip to bite at them!
If the wielder of the axe over-attunes, then the axe consumes their soul. While this doesn't kill the wielder it is up to the GM exactly how having no soul is a detriment. The GM may decide that the character's soul is now one of the faces on the axe and that they can only consume food by attacking it with the axe, or that holy magic no longer has a beneficial effect on the character, or that a quest is needed to get the soul back from the axe before a resurrection can take place.
(GMs - Who made this axe? Who was trapped within it accidentally? Is there some axe-based demi-plane where hungry ghosts wander? Who wants this axe back? Is the axe made by orcs, or dwarves, or does it have the marks of another race? Which important person is inside the axe? How can the axe be destroyed, and who wants to destroy it?)
These books are for 13th AGE, Savage Worlds or Pathfinder.
13th AGE: 13th Age is the new game from the minds that bought you 3rd Edition D&D and 4th Edition D&D (not to mention games such as Dreamblade, Everway, Feng Shui, Over The Edge, etc). Described as “a love letter to D&D” it combines elements of all previous editions into one seamless whole, introduces story-game style elements, speeds up combat yet keeps fights both tactical and story-driven, and gives both players and GMs awesome tools to take their favorite rpg to the next level while being a mine of ideas for existing d20-rolling games.
One of the exciting things about 13th Age is that it treats each magic item as something special… something actually magical. Remember your favorite stories about doomed albinos with cursed black swords, halflings on quests to destroy magic rings, kings gifted with swords by lake-dwelling mystical creatures or pulling them from stones? In those stories powerful magic items had drawbacks – not so much curses but consequences. In those stories magical items were part of the world, and uncovering one allowed you to discover secret history. In those stories magic items were artifacts, relics of past ages, wrapped in myth and mystery. Magic items should drive and shape story as part of the game world, not just give a minor boost to a dice roll.
13th AGE is powered by the ARCHMAGE engine. 13th age is a trademark of Fire Opal Media. The 13th AGE RPG is published under exclusive license by Pelgrane Press ltd. The Reliquary is an independent production of RKDN Studios.
Savage Worlds is a Fast! Furious! and Fun! rules system for any genre of roleplaying game. Create your own setting, convert an existing one, or pick up one of our amazing worlds like Deadlands, Slipstream, or Weird War II.The rules give players plenty of depth to create their characters and keep bookkeeping to a minimum for the game master. If you’re looking for a game that’s fast and easy to set up, run, and play, Savage Worlds is for you!
The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game puts you in the role of a brave adventurer fighting to survive in a world beset by magic and evil!
Take on the role of a canny fighter hacking through enemies with an enchanted sword, a powerful sorceress blessed with magic by the hint of demon blood in her veins, a wise cleric of gods benevolent or malign, a witty rogue ready to defuse even the deadliest of traps, or any of countless other heroes. The only limit is your imagination!
The cover and first 10 illustrations have been pre-funded, the $1000 goal gives us the capital to produce the physical book and ship it out to you. Ideally we’d like to hit $6000 to get each item its very own illustration.
$1500 = 15 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Dreadful Diseases!
$2000 = 20 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Secret Substances!
$2500 = 25 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Tempting Taverns!
$3000 = 30 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Shameful Streets!
$3500 = 35 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Powerful Personages!
$4000 = 40 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Haunted Hills!
$4500 = 45 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Hallowed Halls!
$5000 = 50 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Flying Dungeons!
$5500 = 55 illustrations AND as a stretch goal we give you 13 Living Realms!
$6000 = Each item has its own individual illustration AND we give you 13 Artifacts of Artifice!
This is an example to show how some of the material in the PDF will be presented. You will have a fully detailed description of a item or place. Check out update #6 for a look at "The Emerald Moth" one of our bonus goal taverns.
Bust out your graph paper and design your own idea or use some of the generic floor plans we will be including.
The above map works great to help the GM wrap his head around what and who are where but what if the inn is attacked by goblins at night or a bar brawl breaks out while the PC's are there?
We will also have full page that you can print out that are to the one inch scale for use with miniatures. Print out just one page for a single fight or print all the pages and tape them together as the party tries to defend the establishment.
Each of the stretch goals will be included in the PDF that will contain between 13 to 130 awesome dungeons, npcs, artifacts, etc (depending on how far we get funded) and will be system independent (you can use it to enrich any game). The contents will be partially based upon what backers at the $50 level and up that suggest cool things that they want to see.
Curious what the items will be like?

Risks and challenges
We just finished funding our bestiary here on kickstarter. You will notice that the release date for this project is early summer as well. We will actually have three projects shipping in early summer for our entire line of role playing supplements. We have given ourselves plenty of time to ensure that we are able to launch with a early summer release for our product line.
The funds from this kickstarter will allow us to cover the printing and production costs of making this book. Thank you all for your support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
