THE PROJECT FOR THOSE WHO DARE TO DREAM.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?
FARID RASUL, director: Like all filmmakers, I’m a visual-oriented person that loves to watch cinema, but for a long time couldn’t see dreams himself. It was so surprising to discover that all people around me see dreams, even lucid dreaming, but I didn’t. I started my research that lasted more than two years and now I can proudly present you my psychedelic drama.
WHAT IS THE “PLATO’S CAVE”?
SAYALI BAHAR, co-author: I am not American nor Greece, but to see ancient Plato’s myth being reborn in a Hollywood movie that is filmed by non-European people is really exciting for me. Working on “Plato’s Cave” made me realize that our subconscious has no borders, our conscious do. I used to think only about list of problems people in my country have, now I can create something for everyone around the world. Because everyone sees dreams. Everyone wants to find out, what is going on there.
Farid Rasul is an award-winning director from Azerbaijan. His recent projects were non-smoking social ad that got “Best of Central Asia”, “Aztagram BookTrailer” – 2nd place in Azerbaijan Booktrailer Festival. In 2016 received grant from New York Film Academy’s to Master of Arts in Film & Media Production program.
Sayali Bahar is Azerbaijani best-selling writer and digital art distributor. Her previous works were oriented on gender and youth studies. Lomonosov Moscow State University honorable alumna and scholar. Saran Chakravarthy – professional director of photography. New York Film Academy alumni. Important note: Saran always remembers his dreams.
WHAT IS A DREAM A dream in English means “a vision you see when your mind is resting” and “a thing you want so much you keep it in your subconscious”. But in other languages, for example in Russian and Azerbaijani, these are TWO DIFFERENT CONCEPTS. And you will agree they definitely are. Isn’t it weird that English-speaking people are literally confusing a dream they see when they sleep with a dream they create conscious by themselves?
WHERE DREAMS COME TRUE
The best dreams you see while sleeping and those created by you can become totally equal. In a real life. Want to know how?
YOU ARE IN A CAVE. UNCHAIN YOURSELF.
Living in Hollywood around so many creative, young, professional and happy people made us realize you can choose any topic you wish but anyway you will return to the special one thing you feel the most incomplete without.
People prefer not to speak directly of the things they really care about, so they express it different way. They see dreams and illusions about it, they create art, they try to talk to each other, still remaining chained.
Prisoners in the “Plato’s Cave” live unchained all their life facing a blank wall. The only reality they see are the shadows on the wall.
Outside the cave there are a bonfire projecting shadows, water, The Moon, The Sun, but they don’t know about it. Plato said that even if one will exit and tell others about it, he can’t achieve anything alone. But Hollywood “Plato’s Cave”’s question is “What if prisoners start to talk about their illusions and could unchain each other?”
THE CHALLENGE TO UNCHAIN
Farid Rasul, film director: “For me to write a scrypt about thing I started to research from tabula rasa is quite challenging. But Plato said, if you want to get knowledge, you need to get in a challenge, to self-educate and mentor others. Thanks to the Digital Culture, this time, doesn’t matter how big the cave is, our subconscious world is much better and there’s a place outside for everyone. Not like in ancient times.
WHO ARE OTHER PRISONERS?
It’s challenging to see how different people around the world answer the same questions.
Use our $5 reward-questionnaire too – our Dream research is still going, and “Plato’s Cave” is just a beginning of a big good dream journey.
Our film is not related to any gender, nation, race, religion, cultural background, sexual orientation. We want to show people how different and how close to each other they are, the only thing they need to do is to talk not only about reality, but about their illusions, too. When we started seeing the thin line between personal life’s statement and dream state people don’t notice, we realized there are plot lines everywhere. Isn’t it beautiful to see every person’s life as a dream movie? Crowdfunding is for people who want to contribute the projects that will change the world. For people, who believe that the world of ideas can change the world – but money not. It is for people who know: you can buy ideas, you can’t buy knowledge. Knowledge is the thing you must gain, as Plato noticed. That’s why we launched the Kickstarter campaign – we are looking for smart, experienced, beautiful, energized bakers, who are willing to explore the cave. With us.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
We would like our backers to be totally interacted to film creation process. Every reward you will find is a very special thing we send with warm wishes and love.
We have lots of opportunities for all our bakers: special packs, dream packs, dream interpreting, dream business pack. See rewards and you will find the one that perfectly fits you.
“Plato’s Cave” is going to be filmed and produced by support of New York Film Academy. Our budget looks like that:
Risks and challenges
Farid Rasul, film director:
I haven't been seeing dreams for a long time in my life. My inspiration comes from visions, I work with visual art and it was not easy to live without any dreams, but with lots of illusions about State of Dreams.
I eventually found myself researching this topic and looking for inspiration for my new movie. This research now is a part of big journey with all of you. Plato told us to receive knowledge and to pass it by, so let's continue the education marathon.
We've started the campaign because Kickstarter perfectly fits movie's concept. The most important in the campaign - to speak to people, to know what they're dreaming when they close their eyes and help them to achieve!
Thank you for your support!
