Sugarshack Live Music Café: Music, Drinks, Eats, Community
Sugarshack Live Music Café (the "Sugarshack") is the latest step in our amazing journey. With your help, we will:
(1) open a café & live music venue in Bonita Springs, FL where you can experience the good vibes of the Sugarshack in person. (2) Increase the quantity, quality, & types of content published on our YouTube channel. (3) Improve our business to make it sustainable in order to continue to keep this dream going and growing community through live music.
Speaking of that journey, this is a great opportunity for us to tell you more about the Sugarshack story & how all of this came to be...
Sugarshack Sessions was a YouTube series started by five friends (Eddie Kopp, Alex Casement, Arian Antonucci, Justin Kaczmarek, & Spencer Paterson) as a passion project in a backyard in Bonita Springs in 2014. We featured bands performing raw & intimate live acoustic performances. The idea: to do something we loved with people we cared about to create something positive for others. We filmed local bands to provide them high quality video & audio content to promote themselves. We did it for free while we continued to work our day jobs. The seed was planted, and we tended to it. And it sprouted…
Sugarshack Inc. became our startup business founded by the five original Sugarshack Sessions partners and Jameson W. Yingling, who joined as 6th partner in April 2016. The vision was to create a multimedia company offering creative services, including audio & video production, photography, graphic design, & creative consultation, while continuing to grow the acoustic sessions series into a digital music channel. After two years of grinding with full time jobs while keeping our dream project going, we made the leap. We quit our other jobs and went for it.
Sugarshack Music Channel has grown from that backyard hobby into an online community of more than 100,000 subscribers from all across the world serving local, emerging, and national artists. It was built from scratch, starting with nothing but cameras/audio equipment, a backyard, and a whole lot of love, blood, sweat, & tears. And we still provide the channel content free of charge to the bands!
In order to take the next steps and keep this dream alive, we need to raise at least $100K. So we are asking our supporters and subscribers to help us raise our first round of capital fundraising. With these funds, we will invest in new equipment to keep producing content for our digital community and make renovations, stocking, & staffing preparations to open the café.
Music has the potential to connect, inspire, uplift, and transform individuals and communities. We believe the Sugarshack Café will be a realization of those highest possibilities. It’s been an incredible journey to this point. Now we need your help to take the next steps. Please support us by donating. Thank you for supporting the Shack!
Risks and challenges
Starting up a restaurant/live music based concept is always a risk. This is especially true for us, as it's our first venture of this kind. These include:
We have identified at least one suitable space to lease and are searching for alternatives. Identifying, negotiating terms, renovating, & opening a space can be a time consuming process. But, we have a our real estate team working on finding the perfect space for us and are confident we will find a great solution.
Starting any new business includes much to learn and execute. Thankfully, we have a team of advisors that includes restauranteurs, lawyers, real estate, & entrepreneurs who are collaborating with us to help us develop this vision, a robust business plan, & assist in its execution.
The redeveloping downtown corridor is currently with few competitors for this market. By acting now, we can capitalize on this lack of supply. There are some major housing projects currently in construction that will bring a significant population increase into this area with projected increase in demand in the next five years.
-Cost of Starting & Operating
This capital is absolutely essential to this project. Without these kickstarter funds, we will not be able to afford to take this next step.
How will we be able to run two full-time businesses? Well, the majority of our multimedia company is only assisting the cafe during the fundraising efforts. A General Manager & staff will be hired to manage daily operations of the cafe while our existing multimedia staff continues to crush it at creating high quality digital content! Additionally, we have secured sub-tenants (Narrative & Wally's) to operate the coffee & food components of the cafe.
