Funding for this project was canceled by the project creator on July 5, 2012.
About this project
Last year we successfully funded our first fan film centered on the story of Daisy Watkins tracking down the mysterious super human vigilante known as Static. The finished fan film, entitled Static Shock: Blackout, was featured on CNN, io9, Comics Alliance, The Mary Sue and many other blogs across the globe and garnered over 30,000 hits on YouTube.
Static Shock Blackout 2 takes place directly after the events of its predecessor, where we focus on Static as he recovers from a near deadly wound, battles with his arch enemy Ebon, and must discern between who are truly his friends and his enemies.
Static Shock is the first and only African-American superhero to ever have his own television show, which aired on WB from 2000-2004. Dwayne McDuffie and John Paul Leon created the story of Virgil Ovid Hawkins aka Static, in the early 1990s. McDuffie recently passed away on February 19, 2011, and this project will be in honor of his indelible contributions to the world of comic books.
This is a passion project. The creative team is not making any money on this project, and are doing it because we believe in the character that Dwayne McDuffie created. Currently, we lack necessary funds for:
- Camera/Lighting Equipment Rental
- Stunt Coordinator, Wire Rigging Equipment, Special Effects
- Post-Production Facilities (Visual Effects, Music, Sound Mixing, Color Correction.)
What happens if we don't reach our goal? If we do not reach our goal of $10,000 dollars, we don't receive any of the donations, and Ebon may get away with his evil plan for taking over Dakota City.
What happens if we exceed our goal? If we reach $15,000, we'll have the necessary funds to complete the trilogy. The more money we raise, the better the special effects will be, the better the costume will be, and if we reach additional funding goals, the better the rewards will become!
The movie will be distributed online for free, as a fan film and will not be used for any profitable or commercial purposes outside of that.
Who are we? We are a team of individuals who are students and alumni from Carnegie Mellon University, New York University, the Art Institute, amongst others. The students will be working amongst industry professionals to bring this project to fruition. Some amazing projects that have come out of those who will be working on this film in some way shape or form, have screened at the Sundance Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, Slamdance Film Festival, as well as received accolades online and at smaller festivals.
Please feel free to ask us any questions about the film, rewards or production process and we'll answer as best we can. And if you haven't seen the first installment of Static Shock Blackout, watch it now!
