About this project
A few years ago, I began Dog Ear Audio as an audio book publishing company to create audio books for the lesbian community. No one was taking our treasured stories and turning them into a listening experience, so with the help of my partner and her recently constructed soundbooth, we began doing just that.
Since then, we have heard from many women telling us how much they love these stories and love the fact that they can now listen to them. Some people are beginning to have vision problems, some have long commutes, but all enjoy the storytelling experience that they provide.
In the past we have worked directly with certain authors, and let them be the ones to narrate what they have created. With some books, we have hired other people to portray the characters and emotions in the stories. Now we have an amazing opportunity to have the actress, Diane Gaidry, bring to life the characters of one of the most beloved novels in this genre. Diane is best known to our community for her portrayal of Simone Bradley in the movie, “Loving Annabelle”, by Katherine Brooks.
“Safe Harbor”, written by Radclyffe, was originally published in 2001 and then published again by Bold Strokes Books in 2004. The characters Reese, Tory, and Brianna have now appeared in six sequels to this first book in what has become known as the Provincetown series. New characters have been introduced in each sequel, and the love affair with these women from that bit of land along the Atlantic Coast continues with readers around the world.
With your help, we will be able to bring Diane Gaidry to our recording studio so that the recording, both artistically and technically, will be the best it can possibly be. If you would like to see and hear samples from other books we have produced, they are available at our website, www.dogearaudio.com.
If we are fortunate enough to meet our goal, then a percentage of any extra funds will be donated to Safe Harbor Prison Dogs, (www.safeharborprisondogs.com), a program that rescues dogs from kill shelters across the Midwest. The dogs are taken to the Lansing Correctional Facility where inmates who are trained to be dog handlers, then work on socialization with the dogs, leash training, and simple commands.
Kickstarter funds will also enable us to donate some of our audio books to GLBT Centers across the country, so others who may be a bit short on funds, will be able to enjoy the listening experience, too.
Thank you for your help with this project! I will be posting reports and pictures of the recording process as it progresses. Zoom'n Dog Productions (zoomndog.com) has agreed to film part of the production, as well.
You have my most sincere gratitude for any and every donation.
Thanks to you, this project will become a reality!
