Hi, my name is Isaac and I am a 21 Year old University student from Australia. I run a YouTube Channel called Tragedy and Hope, which is dedicated to creating inspiring and thought provoking videos that change the way people view themselves and the world around them.
I started this channel back in 2011 with no intent of ever getting anywhere close to where I am now. I started out making a few simple videos with no experience at all in editing.
To my surprise my first few videos reached around 30,000 people. I began to really enjoy making videos and created my first viral video in December of 2011, titled "A Message for all of Humanity" which to my astonishment reached over half a million people in a few weeks of its upload:
I was extremely humbled that so many people enjoyed the video and it's message. This led to my interest in video editing growing even more as I realized the power of social media to help share a message.
Eventually I found the teachings of the philosopher Alan Watts, I was so deeply struck by the messages he had shared in his talks, that I instantly knew that I had to begin making videos of his talks.
Below are examples of some of my Alan Watts videos:
The Real You - Alan Watts:
Which now has over 1.5 million views
The Dream of Life:
Which recently won a short film festival:
To my amazement my channel now has over 47,000 subscribers with a total view count of around 11,000,000.
Near the beginning of last year I had my most popular video "What if money was no object?" taken down due to copyright I was very upset by this at the time, and almost considered stopping video making. Eventually however I saw that this was a learning experience and a stepping stone to help me move onto a more professional way of making videos.
Thus I began making videos using purchased royalty free music and footage or asking the owner of certain footage if they would allow me to use their work in my videos.
An example of my more recent videos made with entirely purchased footage and music:
This allowed me to create much more professional videos that did not break copyright, but I was faced with the dilemma of not having enough money to continue to purchase material for videos. I was only able to continue thanks to some kind subscribers who donated money.
So this leads to why I have started this Kick starter campaign, after having my channel skyrocket to 47,000 subscribers in a year, increasing by around 100 a day. There is no way I will be stopping any time soon, I enjoy it so much and I believe it too be very important that people hear these types of messages.
Sadly most things in this world require money, which is something I do not have a lot of at my age. I have so many ideas and videos waiting to happen but I do not have the money to be able to continue and make the next step. Therefore I have began a fundraising project to hopefully get me on the right track.
It is my hope that if I can raise this money that I can:
- Make extremely professional videos using the endless royalty-free high quality footage and music that is available for purchase on sites like VideoHive and Shutterstock
- Move away entirely from the use of footage and music that I do not own the rights too
- Begin doing interviews with interesting people and uploading them to my channel
- Begin working on a documentary I have been wanting to create
- Eventually move to also doing my own talks
- Purchase a brand new editing software to vastly increase the quality of my videos
Kickstarter runs on an all or nothing funding model, meaning that if I do not reach the goal then I receive nothing and the backers lose no money. You can of course go over the amount, if this does happen I will be forever grateful because the more I raise, the better equipped I will be to create professional videos and reach a wider audience.
I never started my channel with an intention of making money or a name for myself, I simply make these videos because I truly believe in what I am doing and the importance of it's message. I absolutely love making videos and it has now become a passion of mine to continue to spread this type of information for as long as I can and to as many people as possible. It is my hope that the minimum amount is reached so I can continue with this passion of mine, otherwise I may have to put a halt on my video making.
Thank you for your support
I will leave you with an inspirational quote:
Risks and challenges
As I am only human there may be times where I will not be able to make videos for long periods of time due to perhaps sickness or a busy life but as long as I am able to I will continue with this project.
It is my hope to one day grow it into something larger.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
