Yellow Rose Distilling is Houston’s first legal whiskey distillery. Our company was formed in late 2010 and our first whiskey, Outlaw Bourbon won numerous awards upon its release in 2012. We quickly realized that our small operation needed to grow. Just last year state regulations changed to allow Texas distilleries to sell for on-site and off-site consumption. With the new law, demand continued to grow and we decided to find a place closer in to town. Yellow Rose is now located just North of the Galleria area, with easy access to downtown, the Heights and other popular areas.
Our new facility is being constructed to include a tasting room, barrel room, bottling room and much larger distilling equipment.
Many of you have already tried our great whiskeys, but we want to give everyone an opportunity to tour and taste our spirits on a regular basis. Everyone is enjoying the craft brewery expansion throughout our state; it’s time we do the same for distilling!
Yellow Rose Distilling currently produces four different whiskeys. These include the Outlaw Bourbon, Straight Rye, Blended Whiskey and our new Double Barrel Bourbon. Later on down the line we will be launching some additional products as well. Prior to our official opening in Aug/Sept we will also be bottling up some special limited release spirits for those who are able to swing by the new distillery!
Being first isn’t easy; it takes a lot of patience and support! The last few years have been fun, we’ve learned a lot but there is much more to accomplish. Getting the necessary permits from the City of Houston took longer than expected, but in early June we finally received approval to start the construction. We are about half way done with the initial phase and look forward to inviting everyone out for a tour and tasting come later this summer!
All of our equipment has arrived so check out some of the pictures below.
Our new still is a true piece of art, standing over 8ft tall. All copper on the inside, this is the heart of Yellow Rose Whiskey. Many of you may remember our initial 50 gallon copper pot still; this is similar but about 10x time size with an added vodka column that will nearly reach the roof of our facility. Get ready for some awesome Texas spirits!
How to Support Yellow Rose
Many of you have already supported us in a variety of ways, but others are always asking “what can we do to help?” We want to offer some one-of-a-kind experiences to our loyal customers, friends and family through the Kickstarter program.
The funding will be used to help complete the distillery and tasting room build-out. We want the facility to be an enjoyable place that Houston will be proud to have as a landmark destination. Maybe you can have your birthday party, holiday party or company outing at the facility. To make this right, we need your support!
Our goal is to raise $25,000 to use towards the tasting room and build-out of our distillery. Additional dollars will be used towards improving the space.
If we meet our stretch goal of $35,000 we will be able to create our Special Reserve Outlaw Bourbon and other creative products. We will also be able to upgrade the lighting above the bar in the tasting room to showcase the custom built bar. We want to create a beautiful space that you will feel comfortable in and make you feel at home.

More about the founders
Yellow Rose was founded by a couple of local guys looking to do something different in the community. They figured that while craft beer is really cool, no one was making whiskey around here, so why not them.
Ryan Baird and Troy Smith got the company and initial recipes started and soon Randy Whitaker was added to the team. The three did something that no one else in the area had ever done: distill, bottle and sell whiskey! (Legally that is…) Building on the idea that a great whiskey starts in the bottle, Yellow Rose surprised consumers and judges by turning out top notch spirits despite their size.
Since the founding, friends and family have joined the team including Ryan Rudel, Kristi Cutlip, Sean Valant and Jason Valentine as well as many partners throughout the U.S. who help with sales and marketing efforts.

Yellow Rose has moved into a 10,000 sq ft warehouse just North of the Galleria. The front 2,000 sq ft will be split up into two area’s including offices and a large tasting/event room. The tasting room will have a 16ft bar and other seating areas used during weekend tours and in the evenings for special events.
The back 8,000 sq ft will include all our production equipment (mash ton, fermenters, still). A separate bottling room is being constructed where we will bottle up our finished products. The middle area of the warehouse will house Yellow Rose whiskey barrels as they wait to be perfected!
Risks and challenges
The best part about our Kickstarter program is that we’ve mitigated many of the risks. Yellow Rose Distilling is already permitted with the Federal TTB, State TABC and approved by the City of Houston to complete the build-out of our distillery.
Still, risk does exist that the city will take longer than expected to give us final approval once the construction is complete.
Our expectation is we should be complete in August (possibly September) at which point we will work to fulfill the rewards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
