Defend the galaxy from an ancient threat in this innovative tactical RPG/deck-building hybrid. ADS: Luminosity is an exciting, fast-paced, tactical RPG, set 200 years in the future. Each character has their own heroic deck, helping you and your friends to overcome the chaos of battle. Your deck grows as you do and helps define you as a unique character.

The Adventure Deck System is intuitive and easy for both players and GMs to learn, with simple skill difficulties, low numbers, next to no addition or subtraction and no tables to consult. This all adds up to extremely fun combat that is both challenging and exciting, without being overwhelming.

The Adventure Deck System plays as a tactical RPG that uses cards. The Heroes of the story are typically facing hordes of enemies, often numbering in the dozens. Smooth playable combat is achieved through the use of small numbers - many enemies only have 1 wound, while heroic characters average 5 wounds. Math in the game is kept simple, ie only -1 or +1. The Adventure Deck System grants the Game Master power for smooth control of many enemies, all without really any planning required.
The core concept of the Adventure Deck System is that each Player Character has their abilities represented by a deck of cards. You draw cards from this deck as the battle progresses, empowering you to conquer the battlefield.
- Dynamic combat
- Rules are on the card, thus less source material is required
- Variety of play - you don't use the same ability over and over
- Powerful combos are possible, but not guaranteed, so when they do happen they are epic
Luminosity is the first setting and module that will be released under the Adventure Deck System. It takes place 200 years in our future, where through the advancement of technology and the discovery of ancient alien artifacts, the human race is out exploring the nearby galaxy. Things are a little different, but folks still drink at bars in blue jeans, drive cars and argue about gun laws. The difference is, that bar might be 1000 light-years from earth, the car is powered by fuel cells, and all weapons use universal ammunition.
Humanity has yet to encounter sentient life, just the ancient traces of a thriving galaxy. It is all a little mysterious as to why we’re alone with so much clear evidence of alien civilization. Luminosity’s dark story starts at first contact, with the discovery of a mysterious object floating in space that devours the light around it, yet isn’t a black hole. Tragically, humans have awoken a race of predators that thrive in darkness - The Sanguine. With superior intellect, advanced technology and a vast army of creatures twisted to their will, we are out matched and in for the most desperate fight in human history.
These aliens aren’t completely unknown to humanity, though. We had encountered some long ago. Legends called them by many names - Nosferatu, Carmilla, and Dracula. It quickly becomes apparent why light becomes so important in the fight against these new and ancient foes.
How light works in Luminosity
In Luminosity, light is extremely important for fighting the Sanguine and their minions. Light is tracked on a meter of 0 (pitch black) to 5. The darker it is, the more aggressive the Sanguine are, and the harder they are to target. Players can change this meter by getting the power back online or repairing equipment. Players can also get luminosity in other ways, like a flare lights up an area around it.
Luminosity's RPG Features
- Intuitive Item Creation with random Boons and Flaws
- Skills that matter - the game is designed so all skills are useful
- Intuitive and quick character creation
- Simple and understandable leveling system with incremental character upgrades between levels
The Character Sheet
In the Adventure Deck System, each class has a different Weapon Proficiency and a pre-determined set of cards. Pre-constructed decks for the classes make it easy for a new player to sit down and play, without needing to try and figure out how to build their deck. Any player can choose to not use a pre-constructed deck and may instead build their own custom deck.
The following are the classes that will be included in the Pre-Release and the iconic characters that represent them.
The players are down to their last glimmer of hope, their last bit of light in the darkness of space. They feel their luck is about to turn for the better, escape is just around the horizon... and with a single play, you send an entire wave of creatures behind them. As the GM, all elements of the game are in your hands, literally! Luck and Skill guide your decisions in-between player turns and you never know who or what will come up next.
- GM Cards help build atmosphere and add variety to the challenge
- GM Cards are designed to both have a thematic part, and a generic part that can be used for virtually any encounter.
- The GM goes between each player's turn, providing smooth enemy play, and a more dynamic combat experience
- GM decks can be customized for different encounters to provide a specific feel.
- Enemy Types allow the GM to control dozens of enemies easily and intuitively.
The Sanguine twist creatures to their will, turning these already frightening creatures into nightmares. These nightmares become their minions and pets and are used to overwhelm their prey.
Luminosity: Example of Play
"It was a large room with a colossal glass container in the center. After fighting through hordes of enemies we hot-wired our getaway truck and started to make it out—victory fresh in our minds. At that point, the large container broke open, revealing a large monster hot on our tails of escape for 5 heart pounding rounds. Through clever card play, and team work, we outran the now throngs of monsters chasing us to allow our ship to fly free. It’s one thing to tell the story, but it’s another to live through it in fast paced, heart pounding card play with just enough luck on the GMs side to throw a wrench in even the best laid plans. Always on your feet and never certain what to expect makes ADS: Luminosity a game worth coming back to again and again." -Ryan Benike
"The card system lets you dive right into the game without having to check back to the rulebook. That lets the game keep its momentum during combat so you can focus on the game instead of the rules." -Carly Baehr
"Even as a first time Game Master, I was able to pick up the rules and run a full session with little to no prep. The player rounds are fast enough to keep interest and attention, and easy enough that a brand new player can feel confident with their character and the cards within minutes." -Sam Fox
"Luminosity is fun, fast-paced, and hectic. I love how quickly you can get into the game - you don't have to spend 6 hours making a character first." -Kyle Schmelz
"The adventure deck system does a good job of giving a tactical challenge, and giving the players many options in combat. AP points are a huge improvement over other action systems. The card customizing also gives the players much more flexibility per turn in combat, unlike other systems where the only options are move, attack, and maybe cast a spell." -Collyn Miller

Risks and challenges
We wanted to be certain we could deliver a great game, so we have waited to launch on Kickstarter until we were certain the game was thoroughly play-tested and all components could be manufactured.
A project with many components requires a high level of coordination. Rules, miniatures, cards and tiles must all be completed in a timely manner. To minimize potential delays, we have partnered with well known companies to manufacture and deliver the products in a predictable manner.
We have worked with, and will continue to work with, artists and professionals in other states - even other countries.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
