Highlord Timburlaine's painting update - take a look!
Highlord Timburlaine has been following our little project for quite sometime now and was willing to help us out with some marketing. We sent him the starter faction for the Spirit Wardens and the KotK and he gave them a good once over. His brother and he will be painting them up and hopefully we will get a look before the end of the campaign. We appreciate his input and help. Please go by and visit him on Youtube at Obscurities in Miniature.
Chronicles of the Wayfarer, Heroes is a fast-paced tabletop skirmish game. Small warbands adventure into perilous situations led by heroes questing in the lands of Valhier to accomplish what may be impossible or impractical for their armies. Only their wit and loyal henchmen assist them as they face the dangers that lie before them to complete their missions. The lands of Valhier have transformed, and the clock of a new age has begun. Thousands of years have passed since the Splintering, and the developing races have never known a time when the Illock did not exist. This nebulous cloud that surrounds their continent is lethal to those who enter. And yet the bravest and foolish still attempt to survey and harvest the treasure which lies within the Illock to their great peril: Pantherium and its magical power.
What makes the design of Chronicles of the Wayfarer distinct is the emphasis on freedom of individual model choice. Whether it is moving, fighting, or interacting while attempting to complete asymmetrical objectives, you will decide every aspect of your models’ actions and how hard to push them each turn. Players will alternate activations to assure nobody has an absolute initiative advantage. Your ability to make tactical decisions on the fly will determine how well your warband performs and ultimately, the outcome of the scenario. Valhier is an unforgiving and deadly world, but you can adapt your characters, strategies, and equipment to take on your challengers head on.
If you don’t care for hulking around scores of figures and you are looking for a good balance between tactical play, character development, and narrative play, then Chronicles of the Wayfarer, Heroes might be the game for you. We embarked on this journey with a few core ambitions. One ambition was to make a game with unique figures that you can grow attached to as you play, maximizing the creative, emotional, and financial investment you make into each of the characters. We also wanted to make it easy to learn and a challenge to master. Our goals included making it as fun for the defeated as for the victor.
With your rules pledge, you will receive the rules, character cards, and counters. We will offer options for a digital PDF and hard copy version for those who want one, but we would recommend waiting until we have had the digital version out for a bit to help uncover anything glaring. We also look forward to feedback as to what we can improve before producing the expanded softback product. Anyone who purchases this version will have access to all real-time updates and changes. As a thank you for being an early adopter and contributor to the rules, you will also receive a one-time discount code for your full digital purchase to use when we release the expanded version. We will be expanding the starting factions as well as adding a few more.
Currently the rule book is over 70 pages. A sample of 6 pages are attached at the bottom of the Kickstarter as a reference if you would like to know more about the game.
"The world goes on forever, its parts ever-changing as the Machinist drives it toward perfection. Each of us, from birth, has a role to play in these grand workings -- either as a new cog to better their functioning -- or as a gobbet of fuel whose brief and utter consumption propels the Great Device forward ..."
-- Book of The First Schematicist
"I confide to your care, my beloved children, the most precious jewel I can leave you: the heart of the Harbinger which contains the purifying flame of the Loeinkas, the spiritual epicenter of the Sons and Daughters of Black Sun. The great powers across the lands will endeavor themselves to cheat you from your inheritance. Therefore, let them reap your contempt as you scorch them from existence.”
--Exalted Hierarch Tosand II
“Seek out wisdom and denounce the ways of the corrupt. Avail yourselves constantly to seek unity through bonds of kinship, for you are an explorer and a channel for new ideas. A gateway to new prosperity lies in your adventures. So, go forth, free from bonds and boundaries, unhampered by the restraints of time. Your adventures will lift our people to new eminences beyond our empire.”
--Alchemist Faelyn, Mother of Lodena
“The ground we stand on is sacred ground, blessed with the blood of our ancestors, preserved by the spirit of the forest. It is our pact with the forest that we will protect, nurture, and serve as the Wardens of the Wilds. Go now with your beasts and seek out the maleficent destroyers of nature and cull them from their material form so the spirit of the forest, BoyaBaya, may feed.

All figures will be produced in White Metal
All of our figures were designed by the amazingly talented Francesco Pizzo, who I consider family https://www.ghamak.com . We have partnered with Jeff Rodman at Fortress Figures for the production of our metal miniature line http://www.fortressfigures.com . Jeff has been awesome and does incredible work. All of the master casts are completed and he has all of our products ready to go to production molds. We would also like to give a shout out for David Stoddard of Kid Solvent Mini Painting who painted all of our figures for us and has been doing great work for us for years.
Todd Ulrich has also been a fantastic part of our team and is rapidly approaching family status. He has completed over 100 pieces of concept and final art to bring our world to life. He has touched every part of both of our Kickstarter projects and I don't know what we would do without him.
As you can imagine, we have embraced 3D printing at a very high level and we have it in our plans to release quite a bit of supporting FDM printable items in the future. Everyone who buys in to our Kickstarter will receive a FREE STL of one of our favorite models: the Lawgiver. This figure is designed to print on a resin machine. If you don't have access to a printer we can print you a physical copy for $12.
As the Kickstarter progresses, we are planning on releasing resin items to support our game that can be added on for a very good price.
- Faction themed Scenic Bases (Available in resin as add-on)
- Lair Objective Markers
- Reliquary Objective Markers
- Pantherium Objective Markers
- Treasure Objective Markers
- Surge Tokens
- Spell Effects
In 2016, our son, who has Down syndrome, graduated from high school. Most of the options for the disabled are limited, so we decided to create our own opportunities for him. My wife left her career, and we started Boyd's Toys. We are a small, family-run business that specializes in 3D printing, resin cast figures, and commercial printing. We do our 3D printing and mold making as well as vacuum- and pressure-casting. John Boyd has over 30 years of printing and design experience, and his favorite pastime is tabletop games. We started creating our own rules and figures in resin over three years ago on a 15 mm project called Chronicles of the Wayfarer, War.
Today we are releasing our second Kickstarter: Chronicles of the Wayfarer, Heroes. Heroes is a 32 mm skirmish miniatures game. We have completed over 75 figures, created master casts for metal molds of all our figures, written the rules, prepared everything for production including over 100 pieces of professional, full-color art. All that remains is production molds and a few more family fights about the lore. We hope you will join us on this journey and we can expand this world into something unique.

We are bringing this project to Kickstarter for the exposure as well as to help increase our fan base. To date, our project has been completely self-funded and we have removed virtually all the risk. We already have a great fan base that has been following along with our progress. The money we collect is only to help with the production molds, everything else we have already completed and made the financial investment. We chose to do it this way so that we could expedite the product and minimize the wait and frustration we see with so many other projects.
Shipping fees will be calculated with the Pledge Manager and charged after the Kickstarter completes. Due to the fact we do not know how much metal each person will want, we cannot predict a universal shipping cost. In the US, we will be using USPS priority shipping so the cost should be reasonable. Overseas orders will be more expensive. We will only charge you for the packaging and actual shipping costs, and we will try to help mitigate any additional fees.
Risks and challenges
We've successfully run and managed one Kickstarter before as well as helped another maker salvage theirs, and we recognize the amount of effort required to make them work. Timing for the production molds will be our greatest challenge. We are estimating right at 4 months. As with all things in life, I am sure something will require a little extra time. We have already removed most of the delay items, so we are confident we can hit our delivery. We will commit to communicating well and letting you know what is going on, even if it is nothing new. Most of the expense has already been managed so there will not be an instance of us being under-budgeted or financially over-extended. We are posting the ship date as February of 2020. Although we anticipate being done sooner, we do not want to be responsible for missed holiday items.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
