Papercraft – a new trend!
If, like me, you are a creative person and always look for new ideas, you will perhaps like my artwork. And, you may find a new Sunday activity and an amazing self-rewarding DIY project! Just with few pictures, check what you can do!
Don't worry, it is not hard as it seems to be. Papercraft is easy and cheap. You won't need a fancy 3D printing machine, just few tools, your hands, time and patience.
Look how unique and beautiful it is:
Honestly, at the beginning, I was impressed when I discovered I could make them myself! Without difficulty, during my free time.
When my friends or family come to visit me, they can't understand how and what it's made of! They want to have them. This tells us that it is a perfect gift and that all will be delighted to have one!
For me, everything started in 2016 when I discovered a picture of an animal trophy on Pinterest. They called it “Faux taxidermy”, I liked it & wondered how I could make it myself. I googled and found what I was looking for. I discovered a specialized webstore & bought my first pattern which was an elephant head. I really enjoyed the process to make it. With my music on, I relaxed, enjoyed & didn’t watch the clock while cutting, folding & gluing the sculpture. It was the beginning of many other sculptures… Each one bringing fun during the assemblage and pride at the end with a beautiful object. Then, I wondered why I couldn’t create & design my own paper sculptures. I checked on Internet, the process seemed hard but I was motivated. First I learnt to design on several 3D softwares. Then, I learnt to transform a three dimension object into a 2D pattern…
How to make a paper sculpture with your own hands!
Select the sculpture you want here: EcogamiShop
If you are a beginner, you can download a free easy model. The free models are perfect if you have no experience at all with papercraft.
Moreover, on the website, you can pick the model according to the difficulty level and the difficulty level is specified too in the description of each pattern.
For example, you select the seahorse, you pay with Paypal or Credit Card and after purchase, you immediately receive a link to download the template (which is a ZIP file with complete instructions in English and the pattern). Here is an example:
I will not go into too much detail because all steps are in the instruction but here you have the instructions in few lines:
1 - ► Download the ZIP file with the pattern (PDF files to be printed with A4 or A3 sheets – Letter or Tabloid in the States) & the complete instructions in English to make the sculpture.
2 - ► Print the template. The paper has to be thick (200 / 300 gsm / grams per square meters). The one I use is 270 gsm & it is perfect for that kind of sculpture. You can print at home if you have a printer or, easier, go to the nearest Print shop, you could buy the paper & print there.
3 - ► You have the printed pattern! Now just check you have the following tools: a pair of scissors, a ruler, white paper glue and a tool to fold the paper (could be a scoring tool / X-acto / cutter pencil or even a emplty pen or a small knife). You are ready to begin!
4 - ► Now just follow the instructions: cut the parts, fold & glue them. It is easy, all the parts of the pattern are identified with edge number guide for easy assembly (to assemble the papercraft model just match the numbers on the edges with the corresponding number & glue the edges together).
5 - ► Once finished, you can personalized the sculpture according to your taste. The customization options are infinite! You can use color paper, white paper and at the end color each face with felt-tip pens to make it multi-colors (I did it for several models). Or, you can paint it to make it stronger & easier to be cleaned. With an oil paint or even spray paint, it will look like laminated & your friends won’t believe you made it with paper!
Have fun with (I hope) your new hobby! And if you can't stop making paper sculptures, enjoy our monthly coupon which will give you one free model per month: EcogamiShop's discount
