Imagine This Productions (ITP) launched Imagine This Women’s International Film Festival (ITWIFF) aiming to celebrate and empower independent and aspiring women filmmakers from around the world.
Imagine This Women's International Film Festival (ITWIFF) is a Brooklyn, NY-based film festival devoted to showcasing the work of women storytellers from every corner of the earth. The festival will gather filmmakers and community together for a rich experience.
Join us in continuing to bring our mission to life!
We held our first film festival at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, NY, on November 12-13, 2016. The two-day event featured 29 shorts and 6 feature films from female storytellers from 15 countries.
Among the festival selection, 8 films made their international debut and 5 were shown in the US for the first time. A number of films touched on themes related to personal struggles within political and social conflicts across the world.
We tried to host some of our selected filmmakers last year but unfortunately, we couldn’t afford to host our filmmakers. Luckily, some of our wonderful filmmakers were able to organize their own last- minute funding to participate, including Lone Falster & Iben Haahr Andersen (Denmark) - Best Documentary Film.
This campaign will help us fund our second annual Imagine This Women's International Film Festival. Over 200 films have been submitted from over 35 countries. The Festival will be held at the Wythe Hotel on the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn, NY, on November 4th-5th, 2017. The two-day event will feature an opening night mixer, screenings, and a closing Award Ceremony.
Breaking the Statistics
According to a study by the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University, there remains a substantial gender disparity in the mainstream film industry, with female directors working on only 7% of the top 250 movies of 2014. The study showed that even among independent films at 23 film festivals during 2014-15, women made up only 25% of the directors, writers, producers, editors, and cinematographers.

The intimate interaction between our storytellers and our audience, and bringing films from across the world to ITWIFF is truly the most rewarding parts of the festival. And with your help, Imagine This Women’s International Film Festival will be able to bring filmmakers and film lovers together to the Williamsburg waterfront for 2017 ITWIFF.

We know that there are a lot of film festivals out there, but there aren’t many film festivals devoted to the underdog women and young women filmmakers and storytellers.
"Our experience with Imagine This Festival was brilliant, and not just because they gave an unknown, homemade, four-minute short with a budget of £200 their Best Horror / Sci-Fi Award in 2016. Their unending support for I Should Have Run is not surprising, considering that Imagine This is a consummate supporter of the underdog. Female filmmakers have found it much harder to create and showcase their work than their male counterparts, for a myriad of complicated socio-political and sometimes plainly misogynistic reasons. Imagine This represents that little bit of positive discrimination that is needed to boost female voices within the film conversation, and its existence is absolutely essential if female filmmakers are ever going to be able to approach creative processes in a level playing field. Since winning Best Horror / Sci-Fi with you guys, I Should Have Run has been premiered by Blumhouse.com and has recently gotten into its 28th film festival and won its sixth award! Thank you, Imagine This for your unerring support for our little horror film from Bristol, we have come so far thanks to your help. Festivals such as yours are crucial in the struggle for equality in the film industry. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"- Gabriela Staniszewska: Writer / Director / Producer, I Should Have Run Winner: Best Horror / Sci-Fi at Imagine This Film Festival 2016.
“Thank you very much for the best and sweetest festival in the world :)” – Lone Falster and Iben Haahr Abderse, winners of Best Documentary Feature for In Light of the Revolution
