ABOUT THE PROJECT
Generation X: Born 1965-1980 (approximately)
X= A Generation Evolved is a documentary about the politics of generation X. Filmmaker, Rakeda L. Ervin began researching her generation about five years ago. During the process, she found very little information about generation X. Most of the research linked Gen X to the 90s era when words like slacker and apathetic were commonly used to describe the generation. Shortly before the 2008 presidential election, Rakeda set out to update the generation's history with an educational profile, covering active political years of Gen X. The documentary serves as a timeline, highlighting cultural and historical events that shaped the generation's politics during those years. Rakeda interviewed Xers and others across the nation to discuss the topic. Thanks to support from contributors, the film is almost ready for broadcast on The Documentary Channel. The goal is to distribute the doc early in 2013. But first, the filmmakers must raise money to cover license fees for music, photos and footage. In addition, funds are required for fine cut editing, legal fees and outreach. Support is very much needed to ensure Generation X voices are heard and current information is available about the generation. Please pledge your support for the project and spread the word. HOW IT WORKS
Pledge your support by selecting a contribution level. When the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged and perks are awarded. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. Share the project with friends because every pledge counts!
Risks and challenges
The filmmakers have years of experience producing shows for networks and production companies. But even the most experienced producer faces the challenge of completing an independent project without the proper funding. While the doc is very close to distribution, we need funds to ensure completion. We face the risk of not being able to clear music, footage and photos necessary to tell the story of Gen X. In addition, legal fees, publicity and post production expenses such as sound mixing and mastering can add up quickly. 10k is the minimum amount needed from Kickstarter to finish the project. Anything beyond that figure will help for sure!
What happens if we do not meet the Kickstarter goal? "X= A Generation Evolved" will not reach its audience. If the goal is not reached, we cannot submit the film for broadcast or participate in festivals.
Help us tell the story of Gen X, a generation predicted to do worse than their parents. Today, our voices are more significant than ever before. Support the effort to share the Gen X experience.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
