Wearable Art/Fashion Accessory. Reconfigurable to be worn in infinite ways. They are fun. They are interesting. Mainly they look cool.
The Fe Wearables are a line of wearable art pieces that can be reconfigured and worn in infinite ways.
Each Fe Wearable is made up of strong magnetic pieces, rigid non-magnetic pieces and cloth. Reconfigurations are achieved by affixing different magnetic pieces to one another. The Fe Wearables are made by hand in New York City out of high quality materials.
The project came about by accident. While working on an electronics class project, I built a prototype by sewing some magnets into a piece of fabric (a section of an old business suit!). I couldn't stop playing with that little piece, so I scrapped what I was doing and sewed a whole bunch of magnets into all sorts of cloth. Some of the stuff looked cool and by the end of the week, friends were wearing the pieces around. I worked on several designs and picked two of the best to push forward with. Six months later, those are the Trestle and the Billow you see below. I now have a relationship with a garment shop in Manhattan that helps me produce these at the highest level of quality. All I need now is your help to put in the first bulk order!
The rewards I offer will ship October 2011. All items are made by hand in New York City.
The Trestle Necklace: (clockwise from bottom right: red wool antique canvas, black cotton canvas, white cotton canvas, grey felt, charcoal heavy felt)
The Billow Scarf: (Shown in charcoal heavy felt, also available in grey felt as seen in pictures and video)
WHY I NEED THE MONEY:
To push this project forward I need to shell out a lot of cash. I need to purchase materials in bulk and put in a large enough order at the garment shop to make it worth their while to prioritize it. I want to design and order custom labels to be sewn on to the pieces, design and produce packaging and pay for professional quality marketing materials. Last but not least I WANT TO EXPERIMENT MORE! New materials. New sizes. New shapes. Can an entire outfit be made in this way? Plastics, silicone, long narrow magnets, stone elements, wooden elements...there are a lot of ideas for the future!
- Wear the Trestle or the Billow as a belt
- Wear the Trestle as an arm band, hair-tie or head covering
- Combine two or more Trestle pieces into one longer Trestle to get really crazy.
- The trestle makes a great desk-top toy.
- Starting in October, Fe-Wearables.com will have a blog for users to post their favorite designs/configurations. How are you wearing these pieces? Let me know.
