Hello, and welcome to The Carbon Comb!
The Carbon Comb was an idea from a young man before he entered college. Soon, I will be starting college but wanted to launch an idea I had for some time. I had been working with some carbon fiber sheets when I came of with the idea of making my comb so I could truly customize it how I wanted to. That's when I realized other people would love to have this type of comb, one that is resistant to force, looks great, and one of a kind. I also planned to design a system for customers to custom design their combs! From a logo, to a name, you could truly make it yours! This start-up was a dream of mine to help pay for college, and I hope I can make you have a comb of your dreams!
Why a Carbon Fiber Comb?
Having hair is a chore, you want to get it just right, but you want the right comb also. You grow into having a certain style or color or size, and it's just another thing you prefer. You want one that has the right gap, the right size, and weight. But what if there was one that is different from the rest?
I wanted to design a comb that fit my needs but also is able to fit many others. But why just one comb? The point of options is to find which one you like, and that’s what The Carbon Comb is. The Carbon Comb allows you to pick from 4 main designs but also edit them to how you like! You can pick a thin or thick tooth pattern and soon be able to add your own designs and names!
Plus with 2mm carbon fiber you never have to worry about breaking a comb!
Now to the combs!
I wanted to design combs back to what you get at the barber shop but something different. A modern twist on an almost old fashion. I have been working with carbon fiber lately and came up with the idea of a carbon fiber comb; a comb is something to depend on. I was curious to making something that was unique but not something that could just be made by everyone. I wanted to learn from it and grow with carbon fiber as it was an interest of mine for some time. That's where I came up with The Carbon Comb. A simple, modern touch to the classic comb but one that is for your beard and wallet and one for your home or travel!
All of these combs are designed in Solidworks 2015, converted to DXFs and then to SVGs and uploaded to my CNC software to cut out each comb individually, watching over every cut to make sure everything is in top shape! After the final cut is made, the edges and teeth must be sanded down one at a time by hand. Truly where it becomes quality over quantity.
The Mini Comb
The mini comb is an exclusive fine tip cut that can be used for hair, mustache, beard or anything! It's small, compact and lightweight. It's a great pocket accessory for any occasion.
The Beard Comb
The Wallet Comb
The wallet comb is a favorite of mine. It features a compact design based off of a credit card design and a bottle opener. It comes in a fine or wide tooth design for your need and of course, fits in your wallet! I didn't know wallet combs existed until I design and cut out The Wallet Comb and found a couple of ones in different materials! But the Carbon Fiber twist is a great show piece or a comb you don't have to worry about breaking.
The Hair Comb
The hair comb is a beautiful twist on the classic comb design. It features a super smooth finish of carbon fiber that is flexible (but don't bend too much!) and very lightweight; like holding a feather. It's 5 inches long and still compact, a great addition to your collection!
I wanted to come up with a system where I incorporate designs into the combs! I want a customer to say I want my family crest or logo or a barbershop name and engrave it or cut it out in the comb! I want to make a system for people to make their carbon fiber combs and have it show up at their door in a week. Everyone wants something unique even me! SO why not make your own?
DOES IT FIT IN A WALLET?
Yes, it does! Currently, I have been experimenting with 2mm and 1mm sheets of carbon fiber to see the correct thickness as 2mm is super strong but is the thickness of around three credit cards!
YOU CAN NOW CUSTOMIZE YOUR COMB!
Risks and challenges
The main risk will be raising enough money to fund buying a stock of carbon fiber and making sure every part is cut correctly. I want to master the CNC and get better so there is no risk but the main ones will be building stock and making sure everything is cut correctly. Not breaking to many bits I hope!
The other risk will be just making sure everything is sanded with no edges, and getting carbon fiber sheets in on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
