Twelve Posters, One Message. #silencetheviolence
Design is powerful. It has the ability to transcend and alter our lives in many positive ways.
Another powerful reality is the disturbing violence Chicago is experiencing. For many of us, reading the headlines and stories in the news are as close as we’ve gotten to the senseless murder and violence taking place in our city on a daily basis. For many others, particularly innocent children living in these areas, it hits all too close to home.
With a shared belief that community and cause-based organizations can fundamentally improve the human condition, The Chicago Design Museum and Ferrer Foundation partnered to create Designing Hope For Chicago, a poster series who's mission is to bring awareness to violence in our city through inspiring art and design.
The artwork was originally produced for a one-night only exhibition on December 8th, 2014 at the Chicago Design Museum.
Weeks ago, twelve of Chicago's top designers were hand-selected to participate in the exhibition. They were shown the video above, which includes a handful of youth impacted by the Ferrer Foundation, a non-profit organization that was established in 2007 to serve youth in underserved Chicago communities.
The children's personal stories and journeys inspired original and dramatic works of art. The diverse poster selection – which shares an overarching theme of peace, hope and unity – was received by the community with an incredible amount of support.
We have created this Kickstarter campaign to in order to produce a limited run of these special prints to the broader community.

So I looked at this as an opportunity to provide the best advice I could or leave them with words that would make an impact. "The abstract use of simple hand cut paper shapes comes together above the banner of Peace. The shapes as well as the bold colors are meant to evoke a positive feeling. The Poster Specs
The posters will be printed on 12x18 80# cover stock on an Indigo color digital printer, with the exception of "Obscured Vision", which will be processed via blind embossing on black 80# cover stock.
Risks and challenges
We don't anticipate any issues with production and fulfillment on this project. We are working with Classic Color, a well known Chicago printer who did an amazing job producing the prints for the exhibition.
We plan to print and ship the posters before the end of January to all backers.
