Annie Just Wants To Play is an illustrated children's book about my cats, Annie and Athena. Their uniquely opposite personalities are a constant source of entertainment that I just have to share!
The story follows Annie, persistent and playful, as she follows Athena throughout the house. Despite Athena's obvious annoyance with her pesky little shadow, Annie never gives up hope that her hunt will end with playtime.
The final product will be 32 pages of full-color illustrations with a hardcover. All illustrations will be completed in water-color, with an animation inspired design.
The planned dimensions are 10" x 8", but may be adjusted after the final page layouts and illustrations are complete.
There are 10 levels of donation to choose from. Each one includes a new and different reward, ranging from Annie and Athena promotional merchandise, to original artwork, to art lessons!
The rewards are meant to inspire the young, and the young-at-heart, and serve as a heartfelt thanks for your contribution to this project.
As a cat-lover, I am very excited that my first published book will be about my 2 favorite cats! This process has proved to be challenging, stressful, and rewarding, all at the same time. I hope to be able to share this story, and many more in the future.
I'm very lucky to have the opportunity to work with my very good friend, and amazing artist, Wattana Khommarath. With nearly 20 years of teaching experience, and a degree in Character Animation from the prestigious Cal Arts, I couldn't have found a better illustrator. His expert abilities have truly transformed Annie and Athena into characters everyone can relate too.
Risks and challenges
So far we have yet to encounter any major obstacles to the project. The biggest potential hurdle will be finalizing the page layouts and making sure the illustrations fit the page properly. However, based on what we have accomplished so far, and our ability to work well together, I am confident we can handle the task.
We are happy with the story, character designs, and initial page layouts. After every meeting we become more and more confident in the story. Initial reactions (not just from friends and family) have been overwhelmingly positive and created a sense of pride for us to complete and share the final product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
