It is the year is 2406. You play as Lockney, the captain of the Enidion, a small, highly advanced, deep-space exploration vessel equipped with a 30,000 lightyear-range Blip Jumpdrive. You’re an employee of Deep Space Investigators, and it’s your job to travel into rarely-ventured areas of the galaxy in search of lost spaceships, in order to determine why they went missing.

The Enidion approaches the Dark Nebulus.
The Enidion approaches the Dark Nebulus.

As the game begins, you receive a request from a mystery client offering a reward for computer core of The Orbitross, a ship which went missing three months earlier. Its last known location was The Dark Nebulus, a notoriously dangerous and mysterious nebula. Deep Space Investigator regulations state that you should typically refuse any missions asking you to enter The Nebulus. Corporations, independent agencies, and brave fortune seeker constantly send vessels through it in the hopes of finding the source of the bizarre sensor readings that permeate the nebula - or abandoned worlds filled with ancient technology.

The clients offer appears too good to refuse. however, and so you jump to a space station near the Nebulus and set your availability to “Seeking work in this sector,” on the active DSI listing. You are immediately flooded with job offers as you are the only DSI agent willing to work there... for now.

  • Solve Mysteries: Investigate why ships went missing by exploring their dark halls, finding clues, and assembling a theory to submit to your client for cash.
  • Gather Clues: Explore ships in your hunt for evidence and add it to your archive to narrow down the possibilities.
Lockney finds a corpse.

  • Extensive Detail: Detailed crew journals and ship data banks make delving into abandoned ships feel eerily real.
  • Make Your Report: Assemble the evidence that to make your case for the cause of a ships disappearance - but be warned, the the wrong conclusion can have far reaching consequences.
  • Non-Linear Gameplay: Explore the Nebulus by jumping between star systems and choose what jobs you want to complete.
  • Fascinating Locations: Over 50 different vessels, each with their own unique and engaging mystery. When you're not working in the Nebulus, visit several space stations to relax, buy equipment, and interact with interesting characters.
Ships are full of hidden surprises.

  • Brave Dangers: Use your wits and your weapons to overcome everything from space pirates to ravenous alien lifeforms.
  • Intense Combat: A powerful but simple melee system and a vast array of deadly firearms are at your disposal - however, your enemies are often just as well equipped.

Risks and challenges

Deep Space Investigators: The Dark Nebulus will be Cobalt Atlantic’s first video game. We have spent years creating exciting tabletop based experiences and understand what it takes to make a game fun. We feel that the biggest risk with Deep Space Investigators is not making our expected release date. Making a game that meets our standards of quality takes time, and we will always stand by that principle. If DSI: The Dark Nebulus' development runs past our expected release date, the backers will be the first to know. We will release frequent updates over Kickstarter to keep our backers in the loop and ensure that they are always informed about the status of our game.
