About this project
Won't you join us and help us press The Language of Birds into 180 gram Tangerine Orange vinyl? We need your help! EVERY backer at any donation level will have their name printed on the digital and physical album sleeve as an ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE PRODUCER of the record.
DIGITAL DOWNLOAD CARD INCLUDED IN ALL VINYL PACKAGES: There will be a digital download card included in the orange vinyl album packaging itself, in case you'd like to listen to the album on your mp3 player of choice without having to convert it, or save your vinyl for rare playing occasions, framing, or collecting.
About The Hot Place:
Lisa King has completed her debut album The Language of Birds. She calls her group The Hot Place, which also features Mike Lynn and The Swimming Pool Q's Jeff Calder and Robert Schmid, with special guest guitarist Richard Lloyd of 1970's proto-punk band Television on two songs. To listen to a streaming preview of the album, please visit our Bandcamp page.
HELP US PRESS OUR ALBUM INTO ORANGE VINYL:
The Language of Birds was one of the last projects to be recorded and mixed at the original legendary Atlanta studio, Southern Tracks Recording (clients include: Stone Temple Pilots; Pearl Jam; Bruce Springsteen; Matthew Sweet; Rage Against the Machine). Lisa began work in 2008, alternating between her snug home studio, No Big Wheel, and Southern Tracks with producer Jeff Calder (of Atlanta's The Swimming Pool Q's.) Lisa wrote all of the songs on The Language of Birds, and, while inseparable from her Mosrite bass guitar, she also played a roster of instruments, some raised from a steamer trunk of vintage guitars and analog synthesizers; others sprang from her wild antique menagerie like the 1920s Marxophone and the calliope-sounding Portatiev.
An analog labor of love, The Language of Birds is a sonic treat that really deserves to be heard, in all of its warmth and glory, as an audiophile quality 180 gram heavy vinyl disc. Even the order of the songs was selected with a Side A/Side B format in mind. For the complete physical vinyl experience, The Language of Birds will be pressed in striking transparent Tangerine Orange wax. (Also, we would also love to print the inside album sleeve in Tangerine scented ink.) Its beautiful package was designed by Lisa King, with images conceptualized by Ash Arnett/Lisa King and photography by Jason O'Donnell.
Finally, we've selected United Pressing (http://www.urpressing.com/) in Nashville, Tennessee to handle our project, and we’ve begun receiving sample chips of wax to color-match our desired Tangerine Orange. United is one of the most reliable and popular record pressing facilities in America, and we're confident in their ability to produce our package to our specifications.

A Little Note about Fine Art Rewards:
Lisa King has a degree in Fine Arts from Georgia State University, specializing in cutting-edge printmaking disciplines like non-toxic etching and lithography. You can view some of her work on The Hot Place's website at: http://www.thehotplaceband.com/fine-art/
Lisa will be hand-printing/silkscreening The Hot Place posters for backers choosing $50, $100, $500, and $1000 rewards.
Below is an example of some of her painting. A 5x7 to 8x10 inch painting is one of the rewards for backers who choose a $100, $500 or $1000 package. (Note: This painting is no longer available, and is pictured here for display purposes only. Backers that choose a $100, $500 or $1000 package will have the option of selecting a painting from her available portfolio, or to have her create an original work made just for you, for this special event.)
Risks and challenges
We have every confidence that we will be able to press this album once funded, in 2014. We have selected United Pressing (http://www.urpressing.com/) in Nashville, TN, one of the most reliable and popular record pressing facilities in the Southern United States. We have already set up an account with the company, and we even have started receiving sample chips of wax, to color match our desired Tangerine Orange.
Lisa King has a degree in Fine Arts from Georgia State University, specializing in cutting-edge printmaking disciplines like non-toxic etching and lithography. A silk-screener and painter, the fine art rewards will be a snap and a joy for her to manufacture.
Should any delays or setbacks occur from the pressing or printing facilities, they will be handled professionally and quickly, with lots of communication between the band and our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
