One of the best ways to keep classical music alive in the community is to create more opportunities for performers and composers to present exciting musical experiences for audiences. With this goal in mind, I have founded Mosaic - a flexible, community-centered group of approximately 12 musicians who will perform chamber music of all areas in the Santa Cruz, California community.
Crucially, there will be a special emphasis on music of living composers, including the commissioning of new works. Many commissioned composers will be young. Concerts will be presented at least twice a year (hopefully more often), at various venues. Date, music, and musicians have been set for the first concert (Sunday, January 29th, 2012, 4PM, at the 418 Project in Santa Cruz, California).
The concert will be:
Beecher: Stories from My Grandmother
I. It was Like a, Like a Lightning
II. Slow Memory
Hummel: Military Septet Op. 114
I. Allegro con Brio
Ratay: Jednou po zapadu slunce
The money raised through Kickstarter will go directly to the performing musicians. Funding beyond the initial goal is also crucial to pay for venues and for the establishment of a "Commissioning Fund" which will eventually have an important place in Mosaic's mission to commission new works.
