B.Luxe Handmade- Where we began
Hi, my name is Brittney and I love making soap. No really, I do! It's the only thing I do where I can be one part mad scientist and one part artistic genius. As a kid, I loved trying to make my own soap by taking the left over slivers of bars left in the bath and squishing them all together to see what kind of frankensoaps I could come up with.
When I got a little older, my Grandma bought me my first glycerine soap kit. I remember spending hours melting the little glycerine cubes and adding all sorts of additives, colors and fragrance to them, trying to make my own soap. Fast forward about 20 years, and here I am, back where I started.
I started making cold process soap a little over two years ago. The need arose when I discovered that my partner was allergic to the detergents and perfumes found in most commercial brands of soaps, bodywashes, shampoos, and laundry detergent. We tried going the hypoallergenic route, but we soon discovered that a lot of the options on the market left us feeling a little unclean, and left our skin felling very dry. So being the crafty person that I was, I took to the internet to try to find something that would not only keep allergic reactions to a minimum, but would give us that good clean feeling and keep our skin nicely moisturized. I found an entry posted in a soap making forum and the rest is history.
B. Luxe Handmade- Where We Are
After two years of creating, and giving out hundreds of bars to friends, family, and co-workers, I decided to start my own handmade soap and bath product company, B. Luxe Handmade.
B.Luxe Handmade currently offers handmade soaps, bath bombs, and bubble bars. My products are all handmade in small batches, and contain no Sodium Laureth Sulfate*, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate* or parabens.
This past month, I have registered as a business in the state of California, applied for a seller's permit, created an EIN, had a logo created and have been working on developing and tweaking some of my products. It's an awesome start, but there's still a lot of stuff I need to do in order to be able to try to get my online store up and going by May 1st and get myself farmer's market ready. This is where you can help!
B. Luxe Handmade- Where We're Going
I would like to raise $2000 to help me launch an online store, and get myself craft fair and farmer's market ready.
Here's a breakdown of what that money would go towards:
$300 - 'The Tank' soap cutter
$200 - paper and containers (bags, stickers, business cards, shipping materials, etc.)
$500 - liability insurance
$300 - more soap molds and other equipment
$700 - ingredients
About The Soap!
All my soap recipes are my own handmade original formulas. They are tested by me, my eager fiancé and my equally eager friends and family. Right now, I currently have 7 different bars of soap I make. Each bar of soap starts with my base formula of skin lovin' shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, olive oil, castor oil, soybean oil, and coconut oil. Then I add other wonderful skin nourishing additives, scents, and sometimes color, to make fantastic creations. Below I've listed just a couple of types of bars I make and will be including in my store, if I get funded
The Smooth Criminal Bar- This luscious bar includes a creamy blend of pureed organic avocado fruit, which is a great skin moisturizer, and silky coconut milk.
Oh Honey!- This scrumptious bar includes goatsmilk, ground oatmeal, and local honey. This is one of my mildest bars!
The Nitty Gritty Bar- This super scrubby kitchen bar includes poppy seeds, coconut milk, and kaolin clay.
Old Faithful- This oldie but goodie, is my basic unscented formula. To this very day, it is still my favorite bar of soap to use!
- Just as a reminder, if I don't get fully funded I don't get any money. But don't worry, you don't lose any money either
- If I happen to get overfunded, I plan to use the extra money to help buy the materials needed to build display stands for my products when I go to fairs, and extra soaping supplies. And any extra money left over after that will go to helping me create my dedicated soaping room.
- I plan to have rewards arriving in the mail by early May.
- I've started a blog and I am going to work really hard on making sure that it stays updated with my soap stuff. If you want to check out some of my shenanigans feel free to give it a looksie. http://bluxesoaps.blogspot.com/
Last but not least...
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for taking the time to look at my Kickstarter.

Risks and challenges
I think my biggest challenges will be making sure I can getting shipping out on time. As I do work a full time job during the day, it will definitely be hard to make sure I get things shipped daily. However, I'm lucky enough to have an hour long lunch, and there is a post office about 4 blocks away from where I work. I can totally make this happen!
The only other challenge I can forsee, is if things take off rather quickly. I am a one woman show, and I pride myself on making my soaps in small batches. So if any of my products begin to fly off the shelf, it may be a wait before I can get them back up there again. I'm hoping to create enough of a backstock on items to keep this from happening. I am also planning on keeping really good sale logs, so that in the future I am able to know what items are the most popular and therefore what to have the most of.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
