About

Did you know theres thousands of arrests each year of graffiti vandals? Well there is and this can help the situation alot. This project came to me during my last training event in the ARMY. While on a special job where I was in charge of unloading all of the vehicles from the trains sent from Texas to California via train. Several of these vehicles got vandalized with graffiti at some point during the thousand mile train ride... While scraping and scrubbing I found myself cursing these vandals' very existence for making all this extra work. After that initial wave of dislike passed I started to notice that some of the graffiti was actually really good and if it wasn't on a multi million dollar tank it could've been a masterpiece. Anyway this turn of events made me start thinking of a way that people that do these destructive pieces of art could be given an opportunity to bring their art to the world but in a legal medium. When do we all see graffiti? While driving... So my idea is to have a safe workshop where people can see proofs of an artist's work and pick and choose what they like and have it permanently painted on their car followed by a clear protective coat to keep it looking new for years to come. It not only brings art and freedom of expression to millions of people but it also provides basic body work skills and the Artists will have a safe legal way to do what in other ways is just a costly drain on economic resources. They will also have hands on experience with automotive bodywork and painting as well as their custom works.

Risks and challenges

The only pitfalls I see that may pop up starting out is a sense of mistrust between artist and customer. The best way to circumvent is to have full disclosure and a sit down meeting where all wants and concerns are dealt with between them.
Also the fact that the artistic side of this will be limited by overall reception of the idea from the customers, which is why it will be a general all purpose paint shop with minor repairs to still give a marketable trade to the people this is designed to help.
