Hi, I'm Cynthia. I make plaster casts of male and female body parts belonging to musicians and artists whose creative work I adore. Originally intended as a way to get into the pants of British rockstars, my goofy groupie schtick eventually became an art form. Galleries in New York and San Francisco have exhibited the casts. My "Sweet Babies" have also been featured in the documentary "Plaster Caster," and I've been immortalized in songs by KISS, Jim Croce, and Le Tigre.
What next? Time to write the book, dolls!
Several years ago I began writing my memoirs, between working my day job and doing spoken word performances with my casts. Writing's even MORE fun than plaster casting - well, almost. My story is one of a shy young girl who wanted to shag rockstars, but instead bagged the ultimate souvenir: a plaster cast! It features my encounters with Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Jello Biafra, Shane MacGowan plus other characters and luminaries. I have decades of photos, diary entries, drawings, and other ephemera to include, plus a tutorial on how YOU can plaster cast . . . whatever you'd like to save for posterity.
The good news is, I already have a publisher ready to put out Plaster of Paradise once it's complete. The book is nearly half finished. Organizing my archive into one cohesive manuscript is a full-time job. As we all know, times have been tough and making ends meet hasn't been easy. In order to come up with a final draft by the end of next year, I am asking for some financial help, so I can give the book my undivided attention.
The funding goal I'm aiming for is $5,000. This amount doesn't cover all of my expenses. But I figured, to be on the safe side, I'd shoot for less. If any additional money is raised, it would be incredibly helpful and very much appreciated!
Being a groupie has been one hell of an education. Not only about myself - the strengths I never believed I had - and the weaknesses of god-like rockstars. My casts may be my "Sweet Babies" . . . but my BIG Baby will be Plaster of Paradise. Please help make it happen. I would be SO thankful for your support. This tale just begs to be told!
