Small Micro SD card adapter for Raspberry Pi
$14,307
1,260
While working on our previous project, Pi-Pan, a Pan-Tilt for Raspberry Pi Camera, we noticed that the standard SD card protrudes from the Pi about one and half centimeters.

A Micro-SD card adapter that fits almost within the Pi footprint would be convenient. So we decided to make one!
Our early prototypes
Our alpha prototype was an hacked up standard adapter. Cut it in half, and attached a SD card over it, soldering it's leads directly. The prototype adapter worked very well in our tests.

Beta Version
For the final board, we made a CAD design. Using this CAD, we made a few beta adapters. We are using them in our Pi right now.

On this adapter, we are planning on using a latching type holder for the SD card, so that it is vibration tolerant and the card does not accidentally slide out of your Pi.

Below is a picture of this adapter attached to Raspberry Pi:

Your Support
The adapter design is done, prototypes are made and tested in the Pi. Now we are working on the manufacturing process. With your support, we will be able to manufacture these adapters in large quantity to reduce the cost.

Risks and challenges
OpenElectrons.com has designed several Arduino, LEGO Mindstorms and Raspberry Pi products in the past and based on that experience, we are confident to deliver a quality product.
There is also a chance of manufacturing delays beyond our control, holiday time is also approaching, to mitigate that, we have added few days for contingency.
