This project has been a labor of love for multiple Steampunk gamers! The desire for a fun Steampunk themed card game based around the imaginative ideas and concepts of the Steampunk Multiverse! After extensive design and play-testing we are excited to have the support of the nationally recognized Airship Isabella for this project and have based our first exciting set around their characters and adventures! The game is designed for 4-6 players played in a round the table fashion. An average game of Twisted Skies takes an hour and a half. Each basic set of Twisted Skies includes:
160 game cards, Full Instructions, One 6 sided dice.
As the design, artwork, and layout of the game is accomplished this Kickstarter is designed in the hope of having the product printed, boxed and made available to the gaming public at large. Professional grade photography and illustration from some of Steampunk's most talented rising stars have made for a great looking game. Working with local game stores and distributors we'll be placing this product in your friendly neighborhood game store!
Imagine, beyond the bounds of your world that there are in fact several worlds, several Alternate Realities. Each more fantastic than the last all given life and connected by the pure power of thought, creativity, and terror harnessed in a mystical energy source called “Aether”. These Realities exist tethered together in a tumultuous ever growing and ever changing Multiverse. While most worlds are blissfully ignorant many know of it's existence and even travel between the Realities seeking knowledge, riches, or power. Across the Multiverse the evil forces of The Order seek to conquer and dominate all worlds. While the pirates and smugglers of the Renegade Armada fight to defy them on fronts!
A Setting brought to life by the minds of Steampunk Enthusiasts! THE MULTIVERSE is a concept that there are multiple Universes or Realities all connected and tied together by a mysterious energy source known as Aether. Manipulating various sciences and even magic Steampunk Adventurers travel between these different worlds for purposes either innocent, greedy, or nefarious.
Cool concept huh? Where did it come from? Well the Steampunk community in the South Central United States (Texas and surrounding states) is very friendly and cooperative with each other. Often traveling to local conventions as a group and collaborating on projects. However, each Steampunk seemed to have his own back ground and world history for their Steampunk persona. This presented a problem for collaborating on things like RPGs and fiction writing. The answer was the Multiverse concept. Through this idea Steampunks from different worlds had a basis to interact. As most of the Steampunk groups in the area stylize themselves around a more rough and tumble look known as “Renegade Steampunk” and the concept of Airship Crews the idea suited Role Play and gaming very well. Many of the cards in Twisted Skies are based off of story suggestions and role play experiences of local Steampunks from the conventions and gathering of the last two years. It is a very real hope that as more people come in contact with the game and the Multiverse concept that Steampunk enthusiasts will ofer their adventures, characters, and ideas for future sets of Twisted Skies making it truly a community inspired game nation wide.
The first group of Steampunks to endorse this idea and back the project was the famous Steampunk production group, Airship Isabella. They have offered their characters and and storyline for the basis of this inaugural set of Twisted Skies. Many thanks go out to the Isabella for the support and the use of their rich storyline but this is just the beginning. Should this first set prove successful then other Steampunk groups and personalities will be approached about the possibility of adding their characters to the game and increasing the appeal and excitement for this community based game!
Twisted Skies is played with two decks in a round the table fashion. The two decks are the Manifest Deck and the Catalyst Deck.
In the game each player gets a Ship Card that is your daring Airship traveling through the Multiverse in search of profit and adventure. Ship Cards also determine how many Crew cards you can have on the Table, how many Tech upgrades you can equip your ship with, and how many Victory Points you need to collect to win the game.
In the Manifest Deck you have Crew Cards or Tech Cards. Crew Cards represent the bold and daring Steampunk characters of your airship! Both Renegades and Order characters are represented in Crew Cards. Each Crew card has a unique box ability that influences the game with neat effects and a Tech rating that shows how many Steampunk gadgets that Crew Card can be equipped with. Crew cards also have a set of Keywords that show which Missions they can attempt to complete for Victory Points.
The other cards in the Manifest Deck are Tech Cards. Tech Cards either equip to your Crew (Personal Tech) or your ship (Ship Tech) and provide them with bonuses in resolving combat situations.
The Catalyst Deck also has two types of cards in it. These are Mission Cards and Interrupt Cards. Ctalyst Cards are named such because they are the cards in the game that really get things going.
Mission Cards are the cards that award Victory Points to players for meeting their requirements. These requirements always involve having Crew Cards with the proper Keywords but can also require certain types of equipped Tech or even discarding cards to receive their Victory Points.
The other cards in the Catalyst Deck are Interrupt Cards. Interrupt cards may be played at any time and have either helpful or harmful game effects. These are the cards you'll play as you attempt to block other players from winning the game or help yourself win. Interrupt cards also contain interesting plot twists like Pirate Attacks or Airship Impound.
All of these cards were designed with input from Steampunk gamers just like you and reflect the wide range of imagination in the Steampunk genre.

Hopefully with the success of this project you'll see us producing more sets of cards offering more Ships, new Steampunk characters, and more wild Missions based on the imagination of the Steampunk communities. We hope to expand the game to include the Steampunk characters of enthusiasts across the globe! Some day you might find your own Steampunk character on a Twisted Skies card!
The most difficult part of this project is the printing and cutting of the cards themselves. Most card games make use of a rounded corner design that only a few printers have the capability to produce. To work around this we've designed our game with a generic square corner edge that can be produced by any area printing house. So even if there are delays or problems with our initial printer we can easily have the cards produced by any other printer in the area. In truth as the design and layout work has been accomplished the toughest part of this project is merely acquiring the start up capitol to get it printed and out there.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
