22 HOURS TO GO... and a final incentive "Stretch Goal" at $8500!
This Kickstarter is one day shy of completion and, like Thor and Martin sledding above, I am celebrating! Thank you all VERY much for the incredible support for this little book. A busy next week or so with Christmas, but I can't wait to start the presses rolling and to keep the gifts of books and other wolverine schwag a'flowin' well into the new year. And just because you are GRRREAT, I'll be slipping a small color print of this "extreme sledding" watercolor painting into each and every book at the $25 level and above if we hit $8500 (and maybe even if we don't).
No matter what I'll be taking every extra cent that we've already received and putting it right back into making this book as nice as it possibly can be. Stay tuned for updates on printing and processing in the near future. Thank you all so much and Happy Holidays!
GRRR! TEN DAYS LEFT PEOPLE!
I'm pulling out all of the stops and will very happily provide an original wolverine sketch ala what you see above to any and ALL backers of this campaign who come in at the $25 book level or above. Original art, tucked into the pages of your "Welcome to Harts Pass" comic strip collection. Nice! Also, due to the early popularity of the $100 pledge level with the watercolored print of your choice, I have add 10 spots to that pledge level. More hand drawn/watercolored art and I am happy to make it happen. Thanks so much to everyone for all of their support so far. Ten days left to make a book. GRRR!
Hi Kickstarter, my name is Erik Brooks. A children's book author/illustrator by day, I started a weekly comic strip for my local newspaper, The Methow Valley News, in early 2010.
Three years and one-hundred seventy-six strips later, I feel almost like a real cartoonist -- and I'm excited to publish this collection! The goal of this Kickstarter is to raise enough money to get Welcome to Harts Pass professionally printed. Your support in this endeavor will produce a high-quality, 9"x7",100 page, softcover, perfect-bound finished book. And the first printing will allow me to share Harts Pass with a much larger audience than it has previously known.
At its core, the weekly cartoon idea was always about my telling more stories -- really short ones -- and participating in the dialog of small-town mountain living. Sometimes funny, sometimes sweet, (sometimes grumpy) -- but always an honest collection of my thoughts and observations -- as told through the eyes of some local wolverines :)
Like many ideas, this one grew over time and the characters have taken on a life of their own. Comics cross boundaries and the "wolverine perspective" has much to offer. From policy-making to parenting, from frenzy to friendship, Kit, Melanie, and Thor, are here to break it down.
The comics even get smart now and again, so be prepared to soak up some facts about this smallest of the charismatic mega-fauna (totally my opinion) and largest of the terrestrial Mustelidae (weasel) Family. Hey, COMMON CORE STANDARDS out there, did you hear that?
Select your favorite by visiting www.hartspass.com. Strips are listed by date, so you can let me know when the time is right.
AND THIS IS WHERE REWARDS GET GRRRITY: Yes, you're paying more to go above and beyond the BOOK, but its hard to argue with AWESOME, and wolverines fit the bill!
And that's it. PHEW! Please note that MULTIPLE BOOK COPIES come with rewards at the CANDIDATE SPECIES level and higher. See details in the side bar and thank you all SO MUCH for taking the time to review these rewards. It was fun dreaming them up and I hope that together we can pull this off.
With GRRRattitude galore,
Erik, Kit, Melanie, and Thor
My strips are hand-drawn, inked with a brush, and colored in Photoshop. The video above is just a little taste of the process -- via iPad Brushes magic!
Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstart project, but I've spent the last 12 years working under deadline in the book publishing world and feel confident that I can deliver.
Print-ready files are set to send and I've already sourced and prepared both my book publisher and my t-shirt guy. A few late nights on the sewing machine is pretty much the norm for me in December, so GRRR! GEAR recipients have little to fear on the polar fleece hat front.
If backers come quickly, I can get things rolling early and will shoot for delivery first thing in 2014. Christmas gifts are pretty much out of the question, but I can definitely get you a thank-you card and temporary tattoos as stocking stuffers -- with books (and other goodies) to follow :)
Please remember that the burden for accurate shipping info falls into your own very capable hands. I will deliver the goods if you can tell me where to send them (and include the right amount of extra postage for shipping over seas.) Thank you for your support and I look forward to getting this underway!
If anyone has any other concerns or questions about this project, please drop me a line! I'll be happy to respond personally, or I can set up a FAQ below if lots of people have the same question.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
