The first chapter:

People say that time heals all wounds, but time doesn’t heal all wounds; they still exist. The pain will eventually go away but not the scars - scars are forever. This is a story about pain and sorrow, but mostly it’s a story about fantastic love and friendship. About finding love, losing love, and a story about the pursuit of happiness.

Mikael has lived in this life for twenty years. During these years his hair has gone from blonde to brown, to red, to black, and back to blonde. If you ever get the chance to touch his hair, you will feel that the hair still is as baby soft as when he was born, twenty years ago. He always has this intense look in his eyes, no matter his mood, and every time you look into those deep ocean blue eyes you will fall on your knees. He is quite thin and not especially beefy, but if you look closely at his midsection you can see the faint outlines of the rectus abdominus and the neighboring serratus anterior muscles. He is tall and always has a grand posture. He moves quickly and with grace, like he floats when he walks and his gestures are many but soft compared to his voice which of some reason always sounds harsh and firm.

Mikael is obsessed with movies and all too often he disappears into their world when he should be back in reality. It’s like something takes over, makes him feel so much stronger for something, get more dramatic or simply makes him daydream and become unreachable for a period of time. He doesn’t have just one favorite. ‘It’s like choosing a favorite child’ he always explains ‘and you can’t do that!’ Mikael knows that parents can choose favorites though. His sister has always been their mother’s favorite child. She has always been the one their mother preferred. He doesn’t think about that anymore since it taught him to take care of himself instead. He doesn’t know if the result is good or bad but he figures that it’s better to take care of himself instead of being coddled.

He has been living in an apartment in a Stockholm suburb for a couple of years, together with his bestest friend in the whole world, Bella. They moved in together when Bella finally moved up to Stockholm, just a few months after him. It’s a big apartment and it has everything an apartment needs: walls and floors, doors and windows, which together construct a kitchen, a hallway, bathroom, a common room, and two bedrooms. It even has a glassed-in balcony, with an infrared warmer to heat it up during the cold winter. It’s perfect since winters are super cold in Sweden and so is the balcony. The interior design of the apartment isn’t really their style and the furniture isn’t even theirs. They are subleasing the apartment furnished but it is enough for the both of them and they aren’t planning to stay there forever.

Bella has the bigger bedroom since she has more stuff – it’s really because she has more clothes – and Mikael has the smaller one. He likes his bedroom. The walls are dark blue, matching Mikael’s eyes, and he also has a window, no shocker there. The furniture is simple: a bed that hardly fits two – especially when Mikael always seems to double his size during his sleep; a bureau with his clothes and a junk drawer - he doesn’t know what it contains, but – promises himself often that he needs to go through it. There is also a small table with a lamp next to the bed on and another small table with an ancient television from the early 2000 on it.

This particular night Mikael couldn’t get much sleep. He had one of his infamous parties the evening before, this time with a cucumber theme. It was of course a success, mainly because of the fabulous cucumber decorations that his friend Anton made. Mikael had mixed a cucumber cocktail and the was apartment quickly filled with friends, both old and new. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming. By the way, ‘night’ may be an overstatement. He hasn’t slept much this morning. He barely remembers what happened after midnight. He remembers that he had been talking with his close friend Kasper in the bedroom where they had agreed on singing some karaoke. Mikael started Sing Star on his PlayStation. He remembers that he took out the microphones and the discs. He then started to clean away some trash and dishes so it wouldn’t look so messy - that’s what he does when he feels a like he had one glass too many and needs to focus. Doing the dishes really helps apparently. Who are we to judge?

Mikael thinks for a minute and is getting pretty sure that he sang one or two songs with Kasper like they usually do and that he lost, which is not something he usually does. After that… after that he was sitting in some guy’s lap on the balcony and someone said it was five in the morning. But that’s it.

He carefully rolls over to his side and observes the guy next to him. Very slowly the memories come back to him. It’s the guy whose lap he sat on only a couple of hours ago. What time is it? Mikael is too tired to check the time on his phone that’s out of reach. His attention falls back to the guy in the bed. It’s someone that Kasper’s friends brought. How did they end up together in the same bed? Did they do… anything? The memory fails him. He sees rapid pictures in his head: that he is lying in bed with this guy on top and they are naked, but that could also be his imagination. It doesn’t feel like a memory.

The sun barely finds its way through the closed curtains. The rays fight their way to the guy in the bed. He is beautiful, but that could also be because of the suns glaze. It really enhances the guy’s attractive features. His chestnut brown curl is resting on his eye; Mikael brushes it gently away. His eyes are still closed but he imagines that they are intensely dark. His skin has a bit more color than Mikael’s vampire pale skin, but that is not so difficult since nearly all of Sweden’s inhabitants have a darker skin tone than Mikael. The bedding had slid down so Mikael could see his naked and beautiful chest and abs. His chest felt a bit scratchy which means that he shaves it. Mikael think it’s a pity since he loves chest hair, on others that is. He shaves his own chest but that’s because he only has two or three hairs in the middle and a few around the nipples so he figures he might as well get rid of them. You can see that the guy works out. He’s not too muscular but has enough definition to be an underwear model. Mikael wonders if the guy is completely naked. He lifts the bedding carefully and glances inside. Yep, he is naked and there are they guy’s magnificent genitals. What a sight! Everything is perfect in every way. His pubic hair is a bit darker then the hair on his head, but that could be a result of the darkness underneath the covers. The pubic hair stretches up to the navel, and Mikael wants to twist his fingers in that hair. He thinks it’s incredibly sexy in a way he can’t explain. He just loves to caress it. Mikael puts down the covers again and then he wonders if he also is naked. He reaches down to feel and yes, he is. Okay, so both are naked in bed, and there is no memory to implicate that they had sex but the evidence speaks for it. Should he ask the guy when he wakes up?

Mikael corrects on more of the guy’s curls and accidentally stroke the cheek carefully. The guy jerks.

‘Good morning, Mikael,’ hisses the guy softly and a bit tenderly.

‘Morning,’ Mikael answers quickly. He doesn’t know the guy’s name. Or yes, something with D, or did it start with K? ‘Do you want some breakfast? I can make some tea, and I probably have some bread, yoghurt and juice.’

‘No, I gotta run. It’s my brother’s birthday today and I’m probably late as it is. What time is it?’

Mikael climbs over the guy, feels their naked bodies meet and he can’t help but to get a little turned on. He picks up the phone and looks at the time. He can’t help his shock and the sigh escaping his lips.

‘Well, yes, it’s almost three…” Mikael says.

‘Can’t we sleep a little bit more then?’

 ‘…in the afternoon.’

The guy stands up so quickly that Mikael get’s a bit startled.

‘Sorry, but I have to leave,’ he says in his flight out of bed. He’s frantically trying to find his underwear, socks, pants and shirt. Mikael watches with fascination. He can’t help but to admire the guy’s body. So handsome, neat and so beautiful. The guy asks, ‘Can I get your number so I can call you this week?’

Mikael gives his number and thinks that he probably won’t get a call but that this was a nice moment after all. And he is so right. Not because the guy might not want to call but because Mikael, in all haste, failed to write the right number. Before the guy leaves the bedroom he turns around in the doorway as if he has forgotten something. He looks at Mikael, walks up to him and gives him a kiss on the lips. It tastes surprisingly good considering that they just woke up. Sweet in some way.

‘Goodbye,’ the guys says and for the first time Mikael hears some kind of dialect. He has a hard time figuring it out since he is quite bad at placing dialects. The guy leaves the bedroom leaving Mikael alone. He lies down in bed; takes in the smell from the pillows and falls back to sleep.

Risks and challenges

When (hopefully) this project is successful I have a contact at a publisher who will help me design the layout and print the books. I can't pay for the publishing however until the project is funded, hence Im here on Kickstarter. :)

This amount I'm asking for is for the publishing fee (design, setting, layout and so on) and 1000 books which will be delivered to my home. So, please, spread the word so I can sell all thousand books! (625 books if you don't count the package deals)

This is the budget:
6000 SEK (approx 700 USD) for Setting (Design, layout, format and so on - hard cover book)
20000 SEK (approx 2300 USD) for 1000 books
6000 SEK (approx 700 USD) for shipping (Sweden and Internationally)
