A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Ultra thin, light flexible protection without the bulk.
The rise of contactless payment has drastically increased the threat of personal data theft. You may believe that contactless payment cards can only be used in close proximity to specific card readers but the disturbing reality is that your card’s data can easily be read by many devices that are freely available.
Worse still, research has shown that contactless payment cards can be read at distances of more than 30ft. To put that into perspective, it means that somebody sitting at the back of a standard sized bus might be able to read your card whilst you stand at the front. Worrying, isn’t it?
Fortunately, RFIDsecur cards can protect you against this threat.
RFIDsecur cards are credit card sized but only a third of the thickness. They can be placed alongside your card, in your wallet, purse or ID holder, guaranteeing protection against theft of your information or unauthorised payments whilst still allowing you – and only you - full use of your cards.
Working together with a London designer Thomas Nox, we have developed our material to be used in many applications and this is one way it can be used.
Available in 4 colours, these cardholders hold 4 contactless cards and protect against RFID, NFC and contactless cards from unauthorised access and payments.
Each RFIDsecur protected card slot can hold up to 2 cards
Laser engraved logo Material: High Quality Vegan-Friendly Anti-Scratch Leatherette (PU)

The RFIDsecur cardholder can hold upto 4 contactless cards, protecting and securing your data and bank details.
How could I become a victim?
As contactless payment cards are incredibly easy for people to use, they are also incredibly easy for others to make use of illicitly.
Even. 'WHICH' magazine acknowledges that this is a problem, saying "It's vital to protect consumers from fraudsters who have the knowhow to develop mobile card readers with much greater reading distances than those used by retailers."
It’s not just about credit and debit cards – identity or access cards can be compromised – should your cards be cloned, the cloner will have your personal information and the same rights of access as you do.
Why does RFIDsecur work better than other forms of card protection?
Many similar products can offer you NFC (near field communication) protection few offer any protection for RFID. RFIDsecur offers you both.
The initial idea for RFIDsecur was a low-cost method of protecting different types of contactless payment cards including debit, credit and oyster cards, and access control cards. Each of these operate at different frequencies – for example, many building access cards operate at 125Khz whilst debit and credit cards work at 13.56Mhz.
Comparing NFC and RFID blocking cards
Using a HID Prox reader and cards on the 125Khz frequency testing RFIDsecur cards against other similar products that block NFC contactless payment.
Blocking cards compared in the test are RFIDsecur, Signal Vault, Voyager Blue, a generic Far East card and Cryptalloy.
Offering protection at both frequencies is not easy but RFIDsecur card protectors can do this where other similar products cannot.
How does RDIFsecur differ to other forms of card protection?
As well as being the safest protection card on the market, our cards are also the thinnest and toughest.
At only 0.2mm, the material is ultra thin whilst remaining flexible, durable, smooth and virtually impossible to tear by hand (see video). You can even stitch it with a sewing machine and it won’t get damaged. It is waterproof and now fully digitally printable with HP Indigo printers.
When manufactured into a card, RFIDsecur has an added polyester overlay to protect the printed surface which makes it more rigid without losing the flexibility and results in a smooth surface finish but a thickness of only 0.3mm, keeping it ideal to carry in your wallet or purse.
We want to demonstrate the other aspect of our product. Not only is it a Protection card in its own right, it can also be custom made and branded for any purpose. Imagine a card that is so useful to someone that they keep it in their wallet, their purse, their ID case.. Now imagine your company details or branded message on that card, which placed in your wallet or purse now becomes the most likely branded item you carry with you, where ever you go.
We're a small start-up company with limited funding and we need your support to make this product more widely available.
The material is tested and the essential technology behind RFIDsecur cards is already selling. We are now manufacturing our RFIDsecur film, which has been tested with positive results but, before we scale up production further, we want to have our material approved by Hewlett Packard so that it is compliant with their Indigo digital printer division. In order to do this, we have to manufacture a lot of material for the print trials and send it to Singapore to the HP test laboratory. This is a relatively expensive process for a small start-up. With your support, we can make this happen and offer you security for your cards in return.
Buy Local - thebestofExeter Reward Card
Local community is important to us so we wanted to give back something extra to our local supporters in conjunction with thebestofexeter. As a result, we have created a special reward level and free delivery to anyone local to Exeter who purchases our special thebestof Exeter card.
What’s in it for you?
Please see the pledges for all of the great rewards available for those who help us make this project a success.
Choose your card design from these options for the reward levels you pick.
How will your money be used?
Money raised will pay for enough of the material to be produced for the trial and to make for our rewards. To cover the cost of the trial and for specialist support in preparing the material, and disposal of the tested material. We also need to allow for taxes and fees associated with raising the funds.
Why have we focused on Hewlett Packard Indigo printers?
Well in HP's words "HP Indigo’s wide portfolio of digital presses for sheetfed and webfed printing deliver leading digital offset quality while running the broadest gamut in digital colour and substrates. No matter what the project, you’ll have the confidence and capacity to get it done perfectly every time." Indigo are the market leader in digital press technology.
Hewlett Packard Indigo Commercial/Specialty Media Certification Program
Our RFIDsecur material has already been tested and run on HP Indigo printers so we know it will work nevertheless to ensure it's compatible for printshops to use, we need HP approval. Essentially the HP Indigo Media Certification Program enables substrate manufacturers, suppliers, and HP Indigo digital press owners to evaluate substrate compatibility with HP Indigo Digital Offset Color™ presses. The media certification procedure incorporates several procedures. After passing a short initial screening evaluation, the substrate is passed on for a more comprehensive evaluation looking at the performance of the particular substrate within the press.
What happens if we exceed our target?
If we exceed our funding requirement, it would not only enable us to reach production volume but will help us to develop the material for use in the wearables market for shielding other applications (such as passports).
Significant over-funding will enable us to expand our marketing at RFID Cloaked and promotion of RFIDsecur into other viable areas of the protection market, such as:
Mobile phone sleeves
Evidence bags (crime scene and data securing for police forces)
Apparel and handbags, wallets and luggage manufacturers
Shielding of rooms from RF and EMC
Incorporating into baby cots and prams to shield vulnerable infants from EMC
Printable tough labels and tags
Risks and challenges
The risks in fulfilling our pledges are minimal we are ready to go. For the card production side we have partnered with a multi national manufacturer who hold security clearances for the production of cards. They operate a quality management system under ISO9001:2008.
They are also ISO14001:2004-certified for environmental management and hold the Carbon Smart award for efforts in reducing our impact on the environment.
They hold ISO27001 certification so that you can be sure that any data we hold is protected. They utilise the latest security techniques to make sure that all data is encrypted and that we meet all the requirements of data protection, with the ability to meet all of our global delivery needs. We have worked tirelessly to deliver a premium, effective and unique product, and will continue to do so. Your trust in us is immensely valued.
Where there is a risk it is solely the approval process with HP. We have already trialled the material in their printer, we have retained a HP recommended printer and coating specialist and used a globally renowned and trusted HP supplier to develop the coating and run trials. We're 100% confident the material will fly through approval or we wouldn't be here now.
