Imagine that life gives you a second chance. But instead of restarting everything normally, you’re reborn with supernatural abilities. Launched in 2015, Anarchy Dreamers is an urban fantasy webcomic, praised for its "soft goth, pastel punk" art, mysterious narrative, and extensive world building.
Hi, my name is Emily! I'm a comic creator, historian, and cartooning teacher. And I've had this story stuck in my head for nearly a decade.
It started in the margins of AP US History notes and $5 CVS pharmacy sketchbooks. Throughout high school and college, the story grew, twisted, and transformed with every iteration-- and there were many. I started the webcomic 3 times and created a 100 paged "conceptual" prequel series inside of 5 years. Eventually, it became my first professional project, Anarchy Dreamers.
Melty Color Psychology is a collection of the art and development of a comic series--- and the development of a young creator.
Anarchy Dreamers is a free to read webcomic that has recently been picked up by a publisher (so recent I can't tell you who yet!) We've had 7 successful Kickstarters to print 3 trade paperback graphic novels and a bunch of super cool minis and single issues. Over the last few years, Anarchy Dreamers has had some awesome press as well!
80 perfect bound pages of concept art from the past ten years of Anarchy Dreamers, including:
- Full Color Illustrations
- Comic Pages
- Artist Commentary
All broken up into sections based on states of development!
Examples of "states of development" include "Anarchy Dreamers (2015)" or "The Real Deal"
"Anarchy Dreamers (2013)" or "Beta Dreamers"
Koji Takahashi [Stops the World] or "When I was in college and was trying not to draw anime because my professors would get mad at me but it's still anime"
And "Bright Eyed Youth" or "When there were also furries"
I'm making this book to showcase the development of Anarchy Dreamers and to inspire others to develop their own projects. As a cartooning teacher, I meet a lot of creators who are in that frustrating space between knowing they have a good idea and pulling it off. I hope that by putting my struggles and progress out into the world, I can help others find their path.
There are only two reward tiers for this campaign, and one of them is a limited edition!
- Melty Color Psychology PDF (digital copy) Unlimited quantities available!
- Melty Color Psychology Book (Softcover, physical copy.) Signed, Limited edition of 100 physical copies!
Why Make 100?
I've had great success printing comics and many people enjoy reading my work online and in physical copies. But art books are a whole other game! Creating this project in a limited physical edition allows me to get the book into the hands of people who are interested in it without running a huge print run. Offering the book in an unlimited digital version allows those who are interested in my art and development, but don't necessarily collect art books, to enjoy the contents as well!
Risks and challenges
I have run and fulfilled 7 successful Kickstarter campaigns, so I'm pretty well versed in all of the things that can go wrong. I'm working with a printer I've worked with for all of my past projects and know they do high quality work.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
