Last year Tobacco Motorwear Company was born right here on Kickstarter when we introduced the Moto-World to our Selvedge Denim Kevlar® Lined Jean. The response was overwhelming as backers from around the world pitched in to make our vision a reality. In the midst of the excitement there was also an important and constant question, why no Women's Jeans?
We could feel the frustration of women riders who struggle to find the kind of fashionable and protective riding gear that Tobacco was offering men. So we decided to make it happen.
Over the past year we have been developing a jean that will look as good as your favorite pair from your closet, but offer skin saving protection in case of an accident. Finally we are ready to introduce Tobacco's for Women.

Women's fashion, tastes and attention to detail make designing the perfect riding jean a challenge. We knew we had to make a beautiful, quality denim jean, that women would want to wear whether riding or not. To do this we reached out to dedicated women motorcyclists who helped us understand exactly what women riders want in a Moto-Jean.
Fabric: Premium Denim with a little Stretch
We start with fabric. Tobacco sources only premium denim from the best mills in the world. We used raw denim for its strength and ability to conform to each women's shape and look better with wear. We wanted something with some stretch for a slimming fit and to be comfortable on day one, but that wouldn't bag out after a few wears and laundry cycles.

Fit: Skinny Cut, High Waist
When it comes to fit we talked to a lot of lady riders to find out what they liked and wanted in a jean. Most wanted something that wore just like their every day jeans, fitted to their body for a slim profile, with a high waist to keep them up, and on. No one wants their underwear hanging out behind them when they ride. We made sure that our jeans cover you even in the most aggressive riding stances. The fit is comfortable and keeps everything right where it should be.
Protection: 100% Dupont™ Kevlar® Lining

Kevlar® is one of the strongest fabrics in the world and has long been used in quality protective gear. We carefully selected an interlock-knit for both its resistance to abrasion, heat and puncture; as well as its breathability and surprising softness for comfort. The lining covers your at-risk abrasion areas from your waist to your shin past the knee in front and covers your rear and thigh in back. The lining is sewn directly into the natural seams of the jeans so you don't have any visible cross-stitching, lines or seams. They look like nice, normal jeans.

From day one we knew these jeans had to be made right here at home. Tobaccos are handcrafted in LA by skilled workers with years of experience. Keeping things local also helps us do our own quality control.
Finishing
Though it would be easy to cut corners and save money we wanted to make the best pair of jeans possible. The little things matter, from our genuine leather patch, to custom buttons and rivets, to our stitching, you will notice we put in our time on every pair of Tobaccos.

How are they sized?

Jeans with waist sizes 24 to 28 will come with a 30" inseam, sizes 29 and up will have a 32" inseam. Extra length keeps your ankles covered when riding and you can still wear a cuff or tuck it into your boots. If you aren’t a fan of the extra length its an easy fix for your local tailor. You will select your size when the Kickstarter closes and we will be sending you a detailed fit guide to ensure you get the right size.

Why Kickstarter?
By launching our women's line on Kickstarter we can save you money. Here's how it works. We design great looking jeans and fund the production run in advance, allowing us to deliver to those who pre-order at wholesale prices. Any leftover inventory will be sold directly on our website after a markup to cover our overhead costs.

Risks and challenges
Risks and Challenges
We have seen other brands launch successful Kickstarters and then go under before fulfilling their rewards. We avoided this by only using Kickstarter funds to fulfill rewards until every ordered item has been shipped.
Our last Kickstarter funded six times over our goal. Despite the project being a much bigger undertaking than expected, we were determined to deliver on time. While delays are always a possibility in the apparel manufacturing business, we have the resources, and now the experience, to make this happen.
We have sources lined up for materials and production. The design and sample process is finished and we even tested the jeans by dragging a woman rider.
Our biggest hurdle last time was underestimating the time it takes to set up international shipping to over 30 countries. While the majority of international backers received their jeans quickly some were delayed slightly in transit. BUT, over the past year we have ironed out those issues and now have systems in place to quickly and efficiently fulfill all orders foreign and domestic.
