A comedy about life, death, friendship, and gym teachers.
Zeus: A comedy about life, death, friendship, and gym teachers.
Zeus is an independent feature length comedy about three friends who mourn the death of their high school gym teacher, "Zeus", by competing in a makeshift Olympics in his honor.
The film was written by myself (Jeremy Hurlburt) and Lou DiPietro in 2008-09 and filmed over 10 days in April 2010.
With Zeus we wanted to tell a story that explored our own mortality, fears, goals, failures, and most awkward moments from our own lives up to this point. We decided that we could best tell that story through the death of a father figure, which turned out to be my high school gym teacher (we really called "Zeus" growing up).
Everything about Zeus has been D.I.Y. Lou and I wrote the script together, we had a tiny crew of 5 people while filming, we shot everything with the help of our friend Hunter Stair (Yacht Rock), Lou wrote and recorded the soundtrack, and we did all of our own post production work. Now we're asking for help in order to get Zeus to the next level, which is hopefully film festivals.
Our goal with Zeus is simple: allow as many people as possible to see our film. We believe that Zeus is a film that can make a big impact on audiences. Lou and I want to enter as many film festivals as we can (we've already submitted to SXSW), but festival entry fees can be very expensive; not to mention we need to print DVD screeners for all of those festivals. That's why we're asking for help from the Kickstarter Community. If we can reach our goal here, that means that we can afford to print DVDs and enter more festivals.
